Visit Genadendal for a step back in history. It is the oldest mission village in Africa and was established by a German missionary, George Schmidt, in 1738. Pristine buildings on the church square date back to the late 1700s. Take a ride on a donkey cart through the town. Swim in the nearby river or go for a horse ride to explore the area.
Greyton itself is surrounded by the Riviersonderend Mountains and is covered with lush farmlands. This historic town has made a name for itself in terms of antique and craft hunting with many options for purchase. The area boasts many hiking trails and a number of refreshing pools and waterfalls.
"Not 4 stars as advertised on Safari Now. Generally poor maintenance. All three showers not in working order (one with blocked drain; one with no door and the third with a loose frame that threatened to collapse when we opened it). Building material in cupboards and junk stored in the loft area, behind the cupboards. Upstairs fridge was out of order. One tv out of order and one freezer out of order. Generally dirty bedding and fish moths in bed. We also got bitten by fleas. Socks (from previous visitors?) lying under bed. Flimsy, unsafe staircase (we had a 2 year old and found the stairs to be very unsafe and not child friendly). One fire extinguisher without a pin standing on the floor. What we liked; the layout of the house is generally nice, inside braai was enjoyed, friendly owners who promptly arrived to hand over and collect keys."
"Thanks for a pleasant stay in a neat, well equipped establishment. Will definitely be my establishment of choice should I visit the area again.<br/>"
