Riverstill Guest Farm

Riverstill Guest Farm is a nestled in a deep and secluded valley, about 6 km from the hamlet of Groot Marico. There are four guest cottages on the farm, each with privacy in mind. The cottages date back to the first half of the last century and give one a good idea of how folks used to live in those days.

The biggest cottage can accommodate seven people and the smallest cottage is equipped for two people. All cottages have fireplaces for the winter months, and verandas. Riverstill is a self-catering establishment with a central lapa for the use of larger groups.

The Marico River runs through the farm and is definitely the biggest drawcard with canoes on the water and a nifty swing. Riverstill co-hosts the annual HC Bosman Festival an there is a labyrinth to be walked, trails to be hiked, fishing in the river and amazing stargazing at night. Guests are welcome to pick from the herb gardens that grow around the main house to spice up their salads, and to sample the locally distilled mampoer.

Please supply your own firewood and bring your own towels. There is lovely little restaurant in town called Marico Memoirs; please book ahead of time. Visit the Marico Information Centre and the Bosman Living Museum while you are in town.

  • "Perfect reset in nature!"

    01 December 2021

"Beautiful surroundings, waking up to birdsong and slowing down. The fact that there is no cellphone reception was such a bonus - no message pings or Teams notifications meant that our short break really was a reset. My partner, our dog and I really enjoyed the stay, the walks along the river and the company of the friendly farm dogs. Bring your binoculars if you're an avid bird watcher, bug repellant and your own pillows if you're particular. We'll be back."

  • "Spectacular wildlife!"

    16 January 2017

"We travelled as a family from New Zealand (3 adults, 2 teenagers). The accommodation is very rural, cottages nestled in the bush on a farm on the outskirts of Groot Marico. Down a pretty rough road through three farm gates. <br/><br/>We weren't entirely use to the wildlife, both outside and inside the accommodation! Made for an interesting overnight stay in a lush area of the country.<br/>"

  • "Charming cottage with rough access"

    29 August 2016

"We thought the stone cottage and surrounds were enchanting. It is well fitted out and comfortable. The owner's many large dogs were somewhat intrusive and necessitated living with doors shut to protect our snacks and to stop them wandering into bedrooms at night. Pity. Would not recommend the access road for a 2x4."

  • "Dark and depressing"

    17 June 2014

"The unit I stayed in was dark and depressing, with thin, dirty looking rugs on the floor, old appliances, dirty floors and a grimy shower. It's a pity, because the surroundings are really lovely."

  • "Beautiful escape"

    29 January 2013

"Beautiful escape from the city, peaceful and private. Thank you."

  • "Basic bush, but nice"

    17 September 2012

"We stayed at Dawids Chalet, the smallest, with only one bedroom which was very basic but a nice bushveldt setting. The other three chalets are larger and appear very comfortable. We also enjoyed the friendly people of Groot Marico."
