Wortelfontein Guest Farm

Wortelfontein Guest Farm is nestled in the bend and foothills of a horseshoe mountain range on a 4890 hectare Karoo farm between Hanover and Richmond in the Northern Cape. This beautiful retreat is rich in history and surprises visitors with its beautiful Karoo architecture.

We have a converted stable with a double bed, an L-shaped couch that is suitable for children, a Victorian bathroom with a bath and a corner kitchenette. There is also The Wagon House which was renovated and offers two bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom with a shower and a lounge. The main bedroom has a double bed and the second bedroom has three bunk beds. We serve full farm-style breakfasts with home-made jams; and for dinner guests can enjoy a braai under the Karoo stars.

Activities include fishing in a beautiful dam on the farm which is 15 m deep at the dam wall. The dam is also ideal for canoeing and birdwatching. A tame springbuck is a regular visitor at the guest house and is an excellent show-off when it comes to pouncing around. There are many great hiking trails on the farm and there are 4x4 routes ranging from three-hour average routes to very difficult routes in the mountains. Guests can also experience sheep shearing, milking our cows, horse riding and feeding our lambs.

"This is a great oasis in the middle of the northern cape. Hosts were amazing and they did extra effort with cold refreshments in the fridge as well as the option to braai some of their lamb chops on the fire with freshly baked bread. Really clean and neat! The lawns are amazingly green and the property beautiful."

"We stayed here as a stopover on the way down to Cape Town. It's about a half hour detour from the N1 but well worth it. The place is beautiful and peaceful. Really enjoyed the Karoo lamb for the self braai dinner option. Magdel and Christiaan were friendly hosts"

    27 December 2013

"We really loved our stay at Wortelfontein! The cottage itself is very charming, and the gardens at the establishment is beautiful and very well taken care of. We enjoyed breakfast (with the most stunning cutlery I've ever seen!), and our hosts were friendly and welcoming, making us feel very much at home. The area is peaceful and quiet and lends itself to wonderful early-morning nature walks. Sally, the resident doggie, is a real treat!"
