  "The owners were friendly and accommodating- they gave us a private flat rather than the backpackers we booked for which was highly appreciated. The scenery is beautiful and serene.<br/>However, the buildings have been really neglected. Once we settled in we saw the mould on the bathroom ceiling, the curtains to one of the bedrooms didn't close at all, the grid of the braai was absolutely filthy, the power kept tripping the last night we spent there (even after switching off the geyser as the owners said), the water was lukewarm at best when the geyser worked, litter was not picked up from other guests, and the motorised gate to the entrance of the property didn't work and was manual. <br/>Within 20 minutes of arriving the unit was showed to potential tenants without asking. This was frustrating as we had just unpacked personal valuable items, and since the gate wasn't functional and there was no additional security, we did not sleep well at all. <br/><br/>To confirm the payment of the outstanding amount prior to arrival we emailed the owners and called several times without receiving a response. When we got hold of him a week before arriving (we booked a month in advance) he didn't give a definite response until given an ultimatum of cash on arrival or EFT. We opted for cash on arrival. We then asked the owner several times for a receipt but never received one, despite several promises of delivering one to us the next day. <br/><br/>Tharfield Estate has great potential due to its natural setting and central location, but needs a lot of TLC. We would definitely not recommend staying here at this stage."

  "It was truly terrible place <br/>To start with, the owner have not give us what was promise on the internet the pic on the internet looks promising but not of that is true. The place is dirty. Garbage ever were. Bath rooms not for humans to use. Kitchen a nitghmare. <br/>This place is not suitable for any holiday<br/>I did not stay. I ask Gerhard to refund me. I lost my deposit, but in that crab place i will not sleep. <br/>And to make thing worst, the people that was book before me stuff was still in the room and caboard when i have to check in. And the owner have dobble book one of my rooms. <br/>Terrible, terrible place."

  "Lovely tranquil surroundings, spacious accommodation with great forested views and perfect spot for a family get-away with plenty to keep the whole family happy. The tame deer stole our hearts! Lovely to be in the country and yet so close to so many places of interest. Welcoming, gracious and friendly hosts. We will definitely be returning and will recommend to others."

  "My family and I enjoyed our stay at the Forest Lodge in December. Gerhard is a great host and really did his best to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The Forest Lodge is spacious and we never felt cramped at all."

  "Travelling on a gravel road makes your wonder if there a place to stay for a night at the end.Upon arrival,a warm welcome by Mr Gerhad, found out this is indeed warmth even in winter time. Large place to explore and play around with reindeer. The naughty doggy Zacc added to the good mood. Recommended to any travellers."

  "At TharfieldEstate you have a beautiful, safe and friendly environment to relax. Around the place there are several activities (reserves, beaches, etc) and facilities. The N2 is just a few Kms from there. The stuff (specially Gerhard and Ben) is totally helpful and friendly and the establishment has excellent quality! You just need to go there and enjoy it!"

  "Very quiet & soothing atmosphere. I loved the surroundings and hope they don't develop the gardens too much - I felt like I was on a farm. The herd of reindeer was a surprise and very charming. Matilda & Gerard are the warmest of people, generous and so easy to communicate with. Regards to Barry & "Cheeky" - Barry's Jack Russell.It was a pleasure to stay there and as Arnie would say ... "I'll be back!""
