Hornbill House Hermanus

Hornbill House is in the small village of Hemel en Aarde between Hermanus and Onrus. Hornbill House has accommodation as well as a ceramic studio, an art gallery and a restaurant, making it a bountiful place to visit.

There are four units for guests to choose from. Two units accommodate up to two people, with the Garden unit taking up to four people and the Family unit taking up to eight people with prior arrangement. The units have private bathrooms with showers only as well as lounge areas and kitchenettes ideal for self-catering. Both the Jono unit and Cara unit are on the first floor and have off-street parking, while the Garden unit and the Family unit is on the ground floor with parking on the lawn.

Guests are able to watch the artists at work in the studio or spend some time browsing the art gallery and gift shop. Hornbill creates their own wines in a true garagiste tradition making them abundant in flavours. The restaurant, Season is a superb dinner option where guests can enjoy a meal with some of their local wine.

Hermanus is a short distance away and has many shops and restaurants. The local craft market is full of gift ideas and during parts of the year, the small town comes alive with the whale season.

"Good communication and an upgrade after additional booking was made to help with family requirements.Very big unit with all facilities to enjoy a great stay away from home. Some wooden floors very noisy. Stove and dishwasher need a proper cleaning. The art pieces and decorations are very special and enhances the special artistic atmosphere to the unit. • "Good value"

    13 May 2015

"this is a clean, spacious, comfortable , friendly and self accommodating place to stay while in Hermanus.they do laundry for 80 rand.they are right at the entrance to the turn off for the wineries just before you get to Hermanus ,so are particularly convenient for going up that road for wine tastings and lunches. I found the lunch and wine tasting at Creations winery to be exceptional for quality value and friendliness. The lunch and tasting at La Vierge was almost is good and had an exceptional view. One place to eat a five minute walk from hornbill is called Eat. It gets great reviews but I found it very disappointing. The only downside is you are always from walks along the shore at Hermanus.<br /><div><br /></div><div>Note if you stay here they have the three-pronged round plugs so the UK and European converters do not work,</div>"

  • "We had a lovely stay at Hornbill"

    27 January 2014

"Beautiful establishment which includes an art gallery, ceramic studio and winery. The unit was very spacious, comfortable and modern with everything you could possibly want in a self-catering unit as well as a complimentary bottle of their Hornbill wine. Our hosts could not have been more accommodating, we felt right at home from the minute we got there. Will definitely be back soon and I would recommend this establishment to anyone travelling to Hermanus."
