Ezulwini Game Lodge

Ezulwini Game Lodge is an owner-managed lodge situated on 300 hectares of private game property in Hluhluwe, KwaZulu-Natal. The sand-forests contribute to the variety of birdlife found around the lodge and the indigenous garden features a variety of vegetation including the lala palm, which can be used for basket weaving, and the marula tree whose fruits are a favourite of monkeys.

Accommodation comprises 19 adjacent Bedrooms built in a U-shape, four Chalets, a Log Cabin and a Treehouse. All accommodation is within walking distance from the main building and offer practical conveniences and pampering products. Stylish interiors and spacious gardens create a pleasant and warm ambiance and the rooms are also serviced twice daily.

The lodge offers a lounge area with TV, a dining room, a bar, a sparkling pool, and a boma where you can simply enjoy the sounds of nature around a blazing log fire. Our restaurant offers meals that are a feast of traditional tastes, and health-conscious guests or special dietary requirements are catered for. Pre-dinner drinks can be enjoyed in our fully stocked bar and will introduce you to South Africa's traditional liquors, beer and a selection of wines.

Ezulwini Game Lodge is also ideal for team-building exercises, orientation courses and conferences. Our air-conditioned conference venue, accommodating up to 50 delegates, features an overhead projector and screen, a TV, a flip chart, and a whiteboard. In addition, secure parking suitable for buses and large coaches is available.

Leisure activities on the property include an enticing pool, a scenic wildlife walk or a nature drive. Unspoilt nature trails bring unrestricted encounters with the small pleasures that are Africa; the sun's warm embrace, the rich smell of soil, sweeping grasslands, intriguing insects, and the sounds of birds and antelope while zebra and giraffe graze nearby. The property does not host dangerous wildlife such as lion, buffalo or rhino, but is home to the scarce suni and red duiker, while birding highlights include the pink throated twinspot and the beautiful nariina trogen. Big 5 safaris also depart from the lodge into the Hluhluwe Umfolozi game reserve daily.

  • "Nothing at all"

    30 December 2019

"This was a most unwelcoming and uninviting resort. When we arrived it was like a ghost town with no one in sight. It was even hard to locate a reception of some sort that was in a tiny little room. There were no lights or music playing in the background. The eating area and sitting area were in darkness. When we tried to get a drink at the bar by the pool we were told that the barmen only comes on duty at 5 pm. The rooms need a serious upgrade. Not dirty but dated. The showers had mould in them. The kitchen poorly equipped. We had to clean our own braai as it was so dirty. There was no a la carte menu on offer only a R230 buffet that offered nothing worth that money. We landed up spending our evening at a beautiful resort close by. I wish I had booked in there rather. A lovely ambiance. We were made to feel welcome when we arrived even just for dinner. The website is also very deceptive. We chose only to sleep there but spent our days at other places in the area."

  • "Excellent family accomodation"

    28 July 2015

"We were accommodated in the house, which was ideal for a party of four adults and two children. Despite arriving in heavy rain (the first for many months) we had an excellent time and would not hesitate to go there again if the opportunity arose."

  • "Lovely Location, Beautiful Pineapples"

    27 February 2014

"We had booked 2 self catering chalets, but when we arrived we were offered the house which had originally been the owners home. It was incredibly spacious and comfortable for the three of us. We loved going walking in the reserve, and found the black impala which I particularly wanted to see. The young were still black and they were adorable. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We mostly self catered but when we did eat in the restaurant the food was good. Would definitely recommend as somewhere to stay for a few nights."

  • "Excellent"

"Stayed at the Main House for two nights and were very pleased with the lodge as well as the excellent service. A big thanks to Anel for always being happy to help. Will definitely recommend Ezulwini to others. Woke up in the morning to find giraffes roaming outside the lodge. Kids also enjoyed and miss the cute little dog and the lovely ginger cat. Needed to spend a bit longer."

  • "Tree house"

"Enjoyed our stay. Hosts were friendly and very helpful. Woke up to the sound of zillions of birds and the kitchen which was close. The birds, though, were louder!"
