Makhasa Game Reserve & Lodge

Welcome to Majestic Africa. Welcome to Makhasa. Set in the heart of Maputo land, in the Kingdom of the Zulu, Makhasa offers its guests a comfortable experience, set in a tranquil guest lodge nestled amongst our indigenous sand forest. Our aim is to allow our guests to experience the best Maputo land has to offer. With a private fully stocked reserve boasting five distinct habitats. Guests of Makhasa enjoy exclusive access to a fantastic range of wildlife sightings, including three of the big five, namely Rhino, Buffalo and Leopard. Makhasa also holds healthy populations of giraffe, zebra, hyena, wildebeest, baboons and warthog amongst various species of birds and buck, including the rare and elusive Narina Trogan and Suni antelope.

Guests looking to experience nature in its purest have the option of tracking Rhino or Buffalo on foot, however, this is not for the faint hearted! After an exhilarating day in the bush, our well trained lodge staff will cater to the guests every need - whether it is a buffet-style dinner in the Boma, or a private romantic dinner for two on the cabin deck. Paying particular attention to every detail makes each experience at Makhasa Pleasantly Unforgettable.

Makhasa is a 2000ha Community owned/KwaZulu-Natal Wildlife stocked reserve situated in the heart of Maputo land. Makhasa lies adjacent to Phinda Reserve within close proximity to Mkhuze and Hluhluwe/uMfolozi National Game Reserves. Easily accessible by road, Makhasa Reserve is for the exclusive use of guests of Makhasa Lodge. Makhasa lodge is peacefully settled amongst the inhabitants of the ancient sand forest. Silence calms the area and guests are treated to accommodation in our six private en-suite cabins with unspoilt panoramic views of the surrounding environment.

Evening meals are hosted in our traditional African Boma. Eat alongside a crackling fire under a starlit African sky, whilst the flames of the lanterns flicker quietly into the night. Guests preferring a more private and romantic dinner, may request a dinner for two on their room deck, or on the cocktail deck, every effort is taken to ensure this is an amazing experience! Meals need not only be enjoyed at the lodge, bush dinners and breakfasts are a popular activity.

  • ""Peace" of Heaven"

    07 July 2013

"The peace and tranquillity was fantastic. We were very comfortable in our two sleeper. The wildlife was amazing, although we never got to see the rhine (not for a lack of trying). I can truly recommend it to anyone looking for some down time."
