umThiba

umThiba is a private lodge set in the heart of Kuleni Game Park - a natural sand forest adjacent to the Phinda Game Reserve and in close proximity to the St Lucia World Heritage Site. The park is home to wildebeest, giraffe, warthog, zebra and a large variety of antelope. With the abundance of bird life, it is also a birdwatcher's paradise.

This comfortable lodge allows the visitor the opportunity to experience nature and wildlife at its pristine best from a deck chair on the verandah, or while walking the many nature trails that traverse the diverse indigenous bush and grasslands that make up the park. umThiba is fully equipped for self-catering and is suitable for couples as well as groups of family and friends.

  • "Private and tranquil"

    13 September 2022

"Everything was perfect. Except, if only they had a cot and feeding chair for our 15 month grandson... Love the privacy, and quite close to Hluhluwe gate. Would recommend this place."

  • "Absolute bliss"

    09 December 2013

"We went up there with little expectations as we are accustomed to pictures being prettier than the actual premises, boy did we get a surprise! The staff were friendly, the house equipped with everything we needed and the Kuleni game park offers such a tranquil environment, pity we didn't get a chance to take walks! It is an absolute 'must do again'"

  • "Lovely!"

    11 July 2013

"umThiba is a really beautiful spot, the accommodation is stunning, we loved the house and the outside set-up...it was all fantastic. It's a great place for the kids to play, loads of space, and the grownups don't have to worry about them getting dragged off by a lion!! We did hope to see more game. Perhaps we were just unlucky but we had no game AT ALL around the house or in the garden. Based on this, I would say this is the perfect spot for a beautiful relaxed getaway, but perhaps not for the avid game viewer. We went into umfolozi every day, so we still got our wild animal fix and then came back to relax at the beautiful umThiba. Overall, we loved it and will def be back. And if some animals decide to visit, that would be an added bonus."

  • "Gorgeous accommodation"

    01 April 2013

"We had a wonderful time! Giraffe, Warthog andd Inyala were right outside in the garden. The house was lovely and clean. As it is not uncommon in SA to have outages, we experienced one and in no time the managaress was there to turn the generator on. Would highly recommend to others. We hope to be back sometime soon. Thank you!"
