"The Wildebees Ecolodge is a home from home. Staff are super friendly, the lodge is well run, the owners are warm and efficient, and the birding on the property is wonderful. Self catering accommodation is more than adequate and rooms are serviced every day, with linen and towels being changed every few days. The lodge is well situated for visits to a number of game reserves as well as St Lucia. The pub is great for relaxing or for meeting new people from all over the world. Highly recommended for a very pleasant stay in the bush!"

  • "Reasonably pleasant"

    06 July 2013

"We stayed for 4 nights and had mixed feelings about this place. The actual cabins and chalets are very pleasantly set out in neat, tidy, tropical gardens. Our fishing cabin was quaint, but the bed was only a Double rather than a Queen and we found it very small. There are several bush walks on the property which were enjoyable. The major issue was for our ability to self-cater, and this was mainly because of the lack of fridge space. The only fridge in the kitchen was a bar fridge with one shelf. There was no space for more than one family's food. This meant that we had to travel into Hluhluwe village every day, across 5 kms of dirt road in order to get fresh supplies. Not good for our car or our petrol costs. We ate one meal at the restaurant and found it average for the cost - R100. The bar prices are reasonable though."

  • "Enjoyed it!"

    12 May 2011

"Martijn en Marieke hebben ons drie heerlijke dagen bezorgd. De lodges zijn goed verzorgd en het is heel gezellig om s'avonds nog een paar drankjes te drinken aan de bar met hen en en de andere gasten. Vriendelijk personeel en lekker eten. Een aanrader wat ons betreft! Gelegen 10 minuten van grote supermarkten en winkels en 20 minuten van Hluhluwe park. Martin and Marieke provided us with three wonderful days. The lodge is beautifully looked after. We enjoyed having drinks at the bar in the evenings with the hosts and other guests. Friendly staff and good food. Definitely recommended. Just 10 minutes from the shops and 20 minutes from Hluhluwe Park."

  • "Good new year's eve accommodation"

    04 January 2011

"A little more rustic then expected but overall we did have a good New Years weekend. The owners were very friendly, the beds were comfortable and the pool area was lovely as well as the layout of the entire lodge which is very tropical and relaxed however we aren't sure if we would return purely for the following reasons: The rooms were way too hot as the fan barely turned and for Durbanites to complain about the heat then you know it was hot and uncomfortable! The amount of mosquitoes and bugs were almost unbearable at times. Guest should be advised to take lots of repellent with them. The self-catering facilities were not great at all. We were that we basically had prepared for the worst and had bought our own cutlery, crockery etc. because the kitchen was not as ‘fully stocked’. If all the guests staying decided to go the self-catering route there would definitely not be enough crockery, cutlery and space for everyone to use the facility. No mention was made when booking that the water was not drinkable so we were fortunate that we had bought a few large containers full of fresh water but really feel that this should have been mentioned prior to our arrival."

  • "Stunning setting"

    01 January 2010

"An absolutely stunning setting and good base for exploring activities in the Hluhluwe area. Service in general could be improved - self catering facilities a little rough, dinner arrangements not very organised and servicing of rooms irregular. Hosts did not introduce themselves and so arriving as guests we felt a little lost, although once we knew who they were they were friendly and helpful. Guests should be warned that the water is only fit for ablutions and that safe drinking water must be purchased. A venue with great potential if it is more efficiently managed. "

  • "Enjoyable stay"

    08 January 2009

"During our recent trip to South Africa we wanted to drive from Kruger to Durban and were looking in the internet for a half way stop. The Hulhulwe seemed like a good spot and the Widebees Ecolodge's website impressed us. Excellent directions helped us find the place easily. The accommodation was a little more basic than expected, but it was comfortable and we had a warm welcome with good service. All in all, an enjoyable and comfortable stay."

  • "Amazing time "

    14 April 2008

"We had an amazing time at Wildebees Eco-Lodge. We were on our honeymoon, and the super-relaxed and easy setting and vibe was a real blessing after the stress of wedding preparations (not to mention delayed flights that morning) We were wonderfully taken care of, in an un-pretentious and down-to-earth way, no airs-and-graces, yet with extremely welcoming and professional service. It was just like visiting the home of a good friend. (And the breakfast was amazing!) We will definitely keep Wildebees Eco Lodge at the top of our list for holiday destinations. Thank-you."
