Blyde River Wilderness Lodge

If youre keen to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and enjoy some well-deserved rest and relaxation, Blyde River Wilderness Lodge is the place to go. The lodge is situated along the famous Panoramic Route of Blyde River Canyon near Hoedspruit and is less than an hours drive from the Kruger National Park (Orpen Gate).

Set on the banks of the tranquil Blyde River, this thatched lodge is every nature lovers dream. A blend of contemporary, African decor complements the beauty of the lodges garden, which rests under the shade of majestic Jackelberry and Fig trees. Each beautifully appointed room has an en-suite bathroom, tea tray and mini bar. Scrumptious breakfasts are included and 3-course candlelight dinners under the stars are an optional extra. On chilly nights, guests can also enjoy the mesmerizing flames and warmth of a wood fire in our traditional African boma.

Enjoy lazy sundowners at the pool or a picnic on the lawn. Nyala roam freely on the lush, green grass and guests are often lucky enough to see hippos and crocodiles from the vantage point of their rooms. The lodge is situated on a private game reserve so guests can also enjoy lovely walks in the bush, where they may encounter Giraffe, Zebra, Ostrich, Nyala, Impala, Wildebeest, Bushbuck, Duiker, Steenbuck, Waterbuck, Bushpig and Warthog. The flora of the area attracts many amazing birds so this is a wonderful retreat for bird enthusiasts.

"It is worth the short dirt road drive to reach this piece of paradise. Every detail has been considered and the property is beautifully looked after. Dinner on the deck overlooking the peaceful river was of Michelin standard and all thanks to Cynthia who, it turned out, was not only the chef, but also the concierge, barman, tour guide and all-round perfect hostess."

"Was an amazing weekend at Blyde River Wilderness Lodge. Very friendly and welcoming personnel. The lodge is very tranquil and beautiful, wish we could have stayed longer! The personal touches that will make me go back is 1) A late check in (around 21:00) was no problem and we were served delicious welcome drinks even though it was late 2)Every night the heaters were turned on so our cottage was not cold at all when returning from our activities and 3) warm water bottles were brought to us every night."

  • "Great little peaceful haven"

    24 February 2014

"We stayed in the (self catering) Owl House at the lodge - a delightful circular thatched building with well equipped kitchen and relaxing seating area. The children loved sleeping upstairs under the thatched roof. The grounds were well maintained and shady and I can recommend having a massage - it was lovely."

  • "Excellent stay!"

    16 July 2011

"The four nights we spent at the Blyde River Wilderness Lodge were perfect! We were two families and we had the big rondavel and one of the smaller cottages for the week. The accommodation was great value for money. Super clean, cosy, comfortable beds with nice bedding with enough warm, snuggly blankets, tastefully decorated etc. The kitchens were well equipped and the best of all was the enormous fireplace and barbecue facilities outside - well stocked with wood every night. Despite the fact that the evenings were chilly, we were able to sit outside the whole evening with the sound of the resident hippo in the background. The beautiful pool and deck with sun chairs overlooking the river will be fantastic to use in the summer. All in all, this was a great place to stay. We brought overseas visitors along to show them the area, and we could not have chosen a better place. Of course, the zebra, giraffe and njala awaiting us at the gate when we arrived were the cherry on the cake! Cynthia, John, Ralph and everyone whose names we did not get - thanks. It was a great stay!"
