Witput Country Lodge is situated on a lovely farm just outside Hopetown and offers guests comfortable accommodation and camping and caravan facilities.
Guests have a choice of staying in one of five Lodge Rooms, the Self-catering Units or camp on one of the four available sites. The rooms are all equipped with fans and furnished with double or single beds. Meals are available on request and guests can make use of the communal TV and tea and coffee facilities.
The two Self-catering Units can sleep six and 12 people respectively and are equipped with two-plate stoves, microwaves, kettles, fridges and cutlery and crockery. The units are furnished with bunk beds and have fans.
Some of the campsites are situated in shade and on grass. Each site is equipped with electricity, a braai area and is wheelchair accessible. The ablution block is shared and consists of showers and a bath. Hot water is available. A communal fridge and freezer is also available. A shop is located on the farm and sells braai wood.
The lodge is situated on the Anglo Boer War route and is next to the railway line. The area and the Orange River nearby offers guests a variety of activities, from fishing, rowing and white water rafting to hikes, walks and mountain biking. Guests can visit the Gazella Game Reserve that provides a sanctuary for gemsbok, eland, kudu and springbok and the area also offers amazing birdwatching opportunities.
"The owner was friendly and welcoming - ended up having a pleasant evening."
"Such an easy and comfortable place. Camped for one night as a half way stop. No hassle and no fuss. Toilets and showers are always clean and in working order. Love the sound of the train too. Peaceful and calm! Jaco is also the friendliest guy ever! Such a pleasure to stay there. Will be back, most definitely! Thank you!"
"Out on the farm beautiful peaceful ! Overnight stay was comfortable!"
"On arrival, I saw no signage to indicate the whereabouts of "Reception" or "Office" for check-in.<br/>I parked my car and wandered around the building, but still could not find "Reception". I noticed that the building was distinctly grubby and decided not to stay. Later that evening, I received the following e-mail from Witput Lodge: "Weet jy ek is regtig baie bly jou soort het vandag verby gehou ek het regtig kliente wat die mooi van di plek sien. As jy in gekom sou jy gesien hoeveel ons al gedoen het maar ja soos ek se ek wens so ek kan eers di mens ontmoet voor ek n kwotasie gee en dan kan ek sien of di mens n mens is of n box is. Veilig ry mag jy n wonderlike nag he. Groete Jaco".<br/><br/>Enough said! Needless to say I will not venture near the place again."
"This is a very nice and cosy farm house, unfortunately right next to a busy railway track that had me up most of the night.<div>This is almost like a back packer's lodge.</div><div>Not very clean and no luxury, but perfect for a stay over on a long journey. No wifi or even good network.</div><div>You are suppose to let the people of the house know if you would want supper as they do not have a menu, this unfortunately we did not know, as it was not stated when we did our booking online.</div><div>Jaco and the team working there are very nice people. Remember that they do not have a speedpoint and only work with cash payments, luckily he was kind enough to allow me to make a eft payment.</div>"
"<p>Unfortunately the rating is low as the facilities were poor and not very clean either. In the morning there was no water in the room at all. According to one of the workers the "contractors", whoare managingthe the facilities, used all the water during the nightbut did not start the pump to fill the tank for the next morning.</p><p>A shame that the place is not up to spec as the historic train station has a lot of potential</p>"
"We were welcomed by the most friendly down to earth people. We had a great rest. The bathrooms were very clean and extremely cool! Will definitely stay there again. Thank you Jaco!"
"We traveled on a fairly tight budget so we weren't expecting ultimate luxury. The people were friendlybut I think their budget is a bit strained. They can and will do better in the future I'm sure as they gain experience. Good luck Jaco."
"The facilities are run down and old.Need maintenance.Room lights did not work. Not recommended for tourists."
"Not really a country lodge, but rather an old farmhouse experience! Friendly people, but not for the faint-hearted!"
"It has a very rustic feel, and the accommodation was adequate."
"Lovely place, tucked away and very safe, arrived with my bulldog, who has travelled more than 200.000 km and she was also impressed.Service same as all old yesterday's decorations.Well done Jaco and all my goods in car safe,in view IPad etc. and my stock in trade."
"Ons het die tyd daar baie geniet. Dit was so lekker om weer 'n trein te hoor. Dit ontbyt was heerlik en het ons die allerheerlikste vetkoeke ge-eet en nog ook vir die pad gekry. Dit was 'n genoeglike oorbly."
"Enjoyed the stay and hospitality good."
"Conveniently situated from main road and just the right distance for a stop between Mossel Bay and Pretoria. Facilities basic but clean. Staff friendly."
"Very basic! But clean. No safe parking. Right next to railway line."
"We enjoyed our stay and had a wonderful time. Very helpful people and neat rooms."
"Fantastiese gasvryheid - bring n mens in die regte bestemming vir die vakansie. Jaco doen gerus so voort."
