Long Creek is the ideal retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday living, it is where you can escape and be invigorated by the clean mountain air. This exclusive lodge with its luxurious atmosphere in the quiet village of Kaapsehoop is one of the first alluvial gold mining towns established in the old Transvaal.
The lodge boasts five individual en-suite luxury rooms. It offers a cosy ladies bar and a restaurant from which to choose your breakfast, lunch and supper cuisine. More often, dense mist can be encountered during the summer which provides the ideal ambiance for evenings alongside the log fire in the opulent lounge which overlooks the surrounding countryside and forests. A full-sized snooker table in the games room provide hours of fun.
The area is known for its diversity of hiking trails. Footpaths meander around amazing rock formations, aloes, trees, wild flowers, and the stunning Battery Creek Falls. You often encounter the horses roaming freely; they are just as at home here as the residents.

"
The on-line booking via SA-Venues was an absolutebreeze. Fast and efficient. Unfortunately, our experience from time ofarrival, was the complete opposite.

Upon arrival, there was not a single soul in sight. I had a contact number saved on myphone. I was told that I was supposed toreport to reception at Silver Mist Guest House to collect keys.

Reporting to reception at Silver Mist Guest House, the younglady at reception did not know where the keys were and had to contact thecleaner (I assume) to try and obtain keys. She later found the keys or her desk.

I mentioned that it is our 10th weddinganniversary and asked the young lady where she would suggest we go fordinner. She said that we were welcome tohave dinner at Silver Mist Guest House.

Back at Long Creek Lodge, I had to get my husband to try andsee why there was no running water. Hefound two large JoJo tanks behind the room and found that the pump system hadbeen switched off. He turned it on. The little bar fridge was not cooling. My husband pulled it out from under thecounter and had to switch that on as well.

All good that Long Creek would prefer to try and save waterand electricity, but it would be appreciated, considering that you have paidR975.00 for the night, that these little things would be seen to beforearrival. We arrived well after 15:00 onSaturday, and come to think of it, whilst waiting at reception for the keys, the young lady made telephonic contact with someone advising them of ourarrival and that they should "open up" for us.

We arrived for dinner at Silver Mist Guest House after 19:00that evening. No-one at reception andnobody in dining area. We seatedourselves. Two employees of Silver MistGuest House walked past us on three separate occasions. Eventually a young lady, whilst walking pastmentioned that "someone will attend to us". We waited.Someone yelled to "Lucky" from the kitchen, telling him thatthere were people waiting to be served in the dining area. No "Lucky". Eventually, the voice from the kitchen appearedat the serving section of the kitchen (same young lady who assisted us atreception earlier in the day) and asked us whether we have a bell at ourtable. We found a bell. She told us to ring it. We rang it.We waited. Again, a voice fromthe kitchen informing "Lucky" of our presence. A guy came walking into the dining area fromthe bar, past us into the kitchen. Cameback our way, plonked two menus on the table and disappeared into the kitchenagain. The voice from the kitchen and Luckyhad a long heated discussion about the fact that there are no waiters and thatLucky was supposed to serve us. Weleft. I doubt if Lucky or the voiceactually figured that we had left as they were both too busy trying to prove toeach other who was NOT meant to serve us.

Sunday morning we woke up to no running water. My husband, again, went out to go and checkon the JoJo tanks. Both were empty. We left for home to have a bath.

"
"I was disappointed with the service, no information as to check in procedure. Found a maid still cleaning the unit 2 hours after the check in time. Was lucky because there was no staff onsite the entertainment area was locked up, so no warm fires and no pool table to use. There is also no DStv.

We had no water in the mornings, and I eventually had to sort out the problem myself as I could not get hold of anybody on Sunday.

A real shame because it could could be a wonderful place.
"
"Unfortunately we did not get to stay at Long Creek Lodge as planned but ended up at Silver Mist Country Lodge instead. I enjoyed Kaapsehoop very much though it was very hot and humid."
"Ons bespreking is verskuif na Silver Mist toe omdat ons die enigste sou gewees het in Long Creek Lodge. Ons was aangenaam verras oor die pragtige dorpie en die verblyf! Silver Mist het sy naam gestand gedoen en ons het wakker geword met die gerunnik van die wilde perde en mis wat oor Kaapsehoop gehang het! Pragtig!
Die aandete en ontbyt was voorwaar heerlik! Ons gaan beslis terugkom om veral nog foto's te neem!
"
"So good we will all be returning and will spread the word to our friends.
The perfect place for visitors to stay over on the way to Kruger.

Thank you for your hospitality.
"
