Allendale Mountain Reserve

The farm Allendale was purchased with the view of creating a unique destination celebrating the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg World Heritage Site in an historic agricultural setting.

Allendale is a largely untouched and secluded valley that abounds with game and birdlife, including herds of up to 300 eland. It has exceptional topography dominated by the sandstone features of Ntabanyama and Gladstones Nose, and is criss-crossed with numerous streams and rivers including the Reekie Lynn, a tributary of the Mooi River.

It has views of the main escarpment as one retreat out of the valley towards the eastern boundary. The ecology is basically a grassland environment interspersed with clumps of forest and wooded areas and includes both undisturbed areas and ex-agricultural land in the valleys.

Accommodation is offered in two completely separate homesteads in different parts of the reserve. These can be hired independently of each other, or for complete privacy and exclusive use of the reserve, together. The Main House is a luxury stone farm house with a wrap-around veranda, situated in an established garden and farmstead with breathtaking views into the Midlands. The Managers House is a rustic stone farm house with a wrap-around veranda, situated in an established garden and farmstead with breathtaking views of the valley.

Guests are required to bring all their own food and drinks and cook for themselves unless another arrangement has been made. Both houses are serviced twice daily and staff can assist with basic cooking and food preparation, teas and coffees, lighting of fires, and saddling of horses.

The property is located approximately 35 km from Nottingham Road village on the Kamberg-Lotheni Road, bordering onto the Kamberg Nature Reserve. It is accessible from both the Kamberg-Rosetta Road and the Lower Lotheni Road.
