Silver Hill Lodge

Silver Hill Lodge is a privately owned estate situated in the beautiful Kamberg Valley of the Central Drakensberg, a mere 35 minutes from Nottingham Road and Mooi River. The Little Berg mountain range, with Mount Cleopatra, Mount Erskine and Mount Lebanon, provide the backdrops of the estate comprising a Bed and Breakfast Lodge and two self-catering units.

This area is a favourite with nature lovers, hikers and fisherman alike, and if you simply enjoy the peace and tranquility of the mountains, then this is the perfect place for you. There are many activities to keep the energetic going such as hiking, fly-fishing, boating, volley ball, and a 300-metre golf driving range. For the more relaxed, simply sit and absorb the surroundings, as for the children, there is a play area that includes a swimming pool, trampoline and a jungle gym.

Enjoy trout fishing in our dams or in the rivers and streams that run abundantly through the estate. Small waterfalls cascade in the higher grounds of the mountain slopes and little springs pop up in unexpected places. There are five dams on the estate which also boasts its own mountain and natural forest.

Enjoy a picnic or sundowners on the banks of the river, around a wood fire or enjoy the sounds of the river gushing over the rocks into rock pools where in summer this is a fun spot for a quick dip to cool off or swim. Take a stroll down to the wetlands or along the many trails on the estate or take a hike up the mountain and enjoy the beautiful views of the Kamberg Valley. Along the way there are numerous types of flora and fauna, animal life, buck and eland to look out for.

"<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">Thanks toAlan and Barry for their hospitality!<br />I had never been to Silver Hills Lodge before, so here are my thoughts<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span lang="EN-GB" style="text-decoration: underline;">The Good<br /></span></strong>Greathospitality from Alan (Owner) and Barry (Manager).<br />The 7 units with DBB were very comfortable and clean.<br />The breakfasts &amp; dinners were set menus but very good/tasty.<br />The Kamberg Valley is very beautiful!!!</p><p class="MsoNormal"><strong><span lang="EN-GB" style="text-decoration: underline;">The not so Good<br /></span></strong>The lodgewas not properly marked on Google maps, depicting it is a field near MooiRiver! This made finding the lodge a little challenging but got there ok.<br />I updated location subsequently on Google and it appears correct now.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">The lodgeis expensive in my view, even for a 4 Star rated facility. <br />We wanted to stay in the self-catering units (2 of them), but these were notavailable for the nights we wanted. Landed up taking the bed and breakfast(+dinner) option at R1200 pp per night. <br />Were 4 of us (2 adults, 2 children (12&amp;15)), and instead of taking 1 unit(which could have slept all 4 of us), we took 2 units as there was no pricedifference!! A bit crazy (?)<br />At this daily rate, you can stay pretty much at any premium resort in theDrakensburg, and many of these resorts have a lot more to offer (facilities) andinclude Full Board, teas etc.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">Facilitiesare limited on site. "Located in an ideal location with some spectacular views. It is a very peaceful location and the welcome we got when we arrived and for the duration of our stay was very warm and friendly. The chalet and the entire property was very clean. This is a great base for visiting many of the Midlands towns, walks and falls."

  • "Excellent lodge in magnificent setting"

    02 September 2013

"We just stayed a couple of nights during winter period (august 2013) in the self catering unit "Mountain retreat 1".Silverhill lodge had more facilities than we could enjoy during our short stay: swimming pool playground, fishing pond, ... We didn't make time to enjoy the restaurant. Owners are very friendly and helpful, and very much available during our stay. WIFI connection was included. Our mezzanine lodge was very comfortable, and price quality wise value for money. In winter time, the open fire in the house is more than welcome! We really enjoyed our stay, the tranquil but splendid environment and the hospitality of the owners. Highly recommended."

"What a fantastic place to stay with great views! The accommodation was of a very high standard, the rooms were modern, spacious and spotlessly clean. Our hosts, Toy & Corrie were extremely friendly and helpful. We would highly recommend a stay at 'Silver Hill Lodge' and look forward to returning there in the future."
