River Valley Resort

River Valley Resort is set in a beautiful valley on the South Coast, with a backdrop of dense coastal- and riverine bush, boarded by a beautiful mangrove forest between the resort and the Mzinto River.

This is very much a family orientated resort, with things to keep the kids busy as well as some relaxing time for the parents. We offer five self-catering chalets and 24 campsites with shared electrical points. There is a swimming pool, a games room and a playground with trampolines available for all guests.

Walk through a well-maintained pathway down to the sandy beaches and the tranquil lagoon that is ideal for swimming, surfing, fishing and snorkelling. The Aliwal Craft Market is situated on the banks of the Mpambanyoni River, offering a wide range of quality arts and crafts as well as great food in a friendly atmosphere.

The sardine run is every year during June and July, where millions of sardines make their way up the coast, making River Valley Resort the perfect base from which to explore. The bright lights of Durban with its many attractions is only a 45 minute drive away.

  • "Intimate with nature"

    07 November 2017

"RVR is lush with trees and birdlife (loeries, hornbills and owls were frequent visitors). Good amounts of shade, just beware some messy trees soiling your car and tent. The R102 is very close by, but not too busy. Communal braai areas, so bring your own if you want to braai at your spot. There is a pub, a clean pool with deckchairs, a decent kids playground, good facilities and very clean ablutions. There are small houses looking in on the campsites all round the resort. The grounds are small and we felt quite safe. Beach access, but a bit of a walk. Friendly staff and management, all in all we had an enjoyable time. Areas to improve on: we had friends come over and even the children were charged R30, so cost them R120 for the day, which was a little steep we thought. There are some mosquito breeding hotspots like under the trampoline which can contribute to many mozzies, even though its KZN. Can recommend RVR for peace and quiet and cleanliness."

  • "A little gem down the coast"

    10 July 2017

"On arriving at the resort we booked in quickly and found ourselves a camp site. The resort itself is so clean, and it is not massive so you could let your kids go and play at the play area or swim at the swimming pool without having to stress about where they are. There are plenty of baths, showers and toilets that are spotless and kept clean throughout the day. We were there in school holidays so I would imagine that out of season it would be really nice and quite. We cant wait to wait to go and spend another weekend there."
