Amangwane is a community and business partnership right next to the Kosi Bay mouth gate. This rustic haven is set in the dunes surrounding the Lakes of Kosi bay in the heart of the welcoming Thongaland community. It is a mere 15 minute drive/45 minute walk to Kosi Bay mouth. Kosi bay is situated in the northern part of the iSimangaliso wetland park which is the first Natural World Heritage Site in South Africa. Kosi Bay reflects an Africa that is still untouched by western influences and displays the continuing culture and attitudes towards the environment of the Thonga people. We are also approximately 4km from the Mozambique border post of Ponta DOura making us the perfect stop over before an excursion or daytrip into Mozambique.Kosi Bay consists of four lakes that feed into the Indian Ocean. These lakes range from freshwater to saline and traditional fishing methods are still employed here today by the Thonga people. Through the use of fishing kraals that are constructed out of only the local plants and grasses, the Thonga people fish the lakes in an ecologically sound way that cannot result in overfishing it is in this way that the Thonga take care of the environment that has been their home for centuries. We are fully accessible by ordinary motorcar 4x4 vehicles are not necessary to reach our Kosi Bay accommodation. Our reed chalets are also well spaced to offer you the maximum privacy while you stay with us. Our accommodation comprises of 10 traditionally constructed en-suite reed chalets with a separate communal dining and boma area, which of course has a fire pit no night in South Africa would be complete without an evening under the stars swapping stories of your travels around a campfire. As well as dinner, bed and breakfast accommodation we offer package adventures with lots of activities, or self-catering.
"It was a fantastic holiday. Vusi the manager was wonderful. His food was awesome, service incredible. Met amazing people. We will definitely go back"
"Friendly staff. Good food. Comfortable hut."
"My partner picked Amagwane so I no idea where she wanted us to stay for a week. I must I was pleasantly surprised. We couldn't have asked for better place to detach from the humdrum of city life and find a clean break in the welcome silence of our own company and murmur of nature's delicate sounds.

On arrival we were greeted by the kind manager Vusi and caretaker Baba Mbazo (the latter amazing company during night around the fire). When shown our cabin we were home instantly.

With the town center about 20 minutes away, restocking on supplies is a pleasurable drive. Having Mozambique a stone's throw for the camp makes a trip to our neighbours a welcome adventure.

Having no 4x4 we had to rely on the kindness of strangers to give myself and Tanja a ride to the beach and the kosi mouth. The kindness was in abundance and the beach and lagoon were always a happy option.

We really hope to be someday in the future. Our stsy was one we will never forget"
"Rustic camp beautiful setting. Room is very basic could do with some floor mats in rooms. Staff was helpful. Fully equipped kitchen , just needs a microwave."
"This was our first visit to the Kosi Bay area. We will definitely go there again. The camp was quite nice. The reed huts made for a good atmosphere. Pity, though, that provision isn't made for something like a ceiling fan... especially in that heat! Catering could also do with some attention. The option of self catering is available, but no facilities aside from the communal eating area/kitchen. Otherwise, very nice."
