Kosi Bay Lodge

Kosi Bay Lodge is perfectly situated for guests who want to base themselves in the heart of this pristine area and further explore the region. Just a few hundred metres from the waters edge of Lake Nhlange, the third and largest lake, Kosi Bay Lodge offers everything an African bush lodge should and more.

Sip sundowners in Nhlange Pub with amazing views and enjoy cuisine with a distinctive local flavour in the cosy atmosphere of the Umdoni Restaurant and Bar overlooking the pool and the sun deck. Two, four and six bedded rustic lodges are comfortably appointed. The structures consist of thatched roofs, treated poles, wooden floors on stilts and reed walls typically Tonga and Zulu style. Accommodation is rustic more than plush, but the setting and range of activities make a stay well worthwhile.

Full board or self-catering options are available and all chalets have fully equipped kitchens with private barbecues and access to the boma areas. Accent is on comfort, informal service and attention, and guests are encouraged to explore this unique environment by friendly staff who are on hand to assist with information and arranging outings. For the adventurous, there are numerous activities and excursions that fully utilize the many resources available.

Kosi Bay is a place where fishermen can revere their surroundings, with kingfish, queenfish, stumpnose, shad, grunter, mullet and garrick just a fraction of what is available from the waters of this region. While Kosi Bay has such wonders as the two-armed mudskipper fish and the one-armed fiddler crab, nearby Ndumo Game Reserve sports rather larger wonders of the animal kingdom, including rhino, giraffe, warthog, zebra, kudu, nyala and impala, as well as over 400 bird species.

Other day tours include Black Rock, Lala Neck and Bhanga Nek home to Ezemvelo KZN Wildlifes 30 year old turtle research facility all within easy reach. 44 vehicles are recommended.

"We had a lovely stay in beautiful surroundings. Very relaxing place. Friendly staff. Our Chalet was well equipt. Lots of space and air-con. They have a rooftop bar and a lookout where you can see the biggest lake. A restaurant was ok. But bring your own staff if you like to selfcater. There is no shop for water and small things. <br/>We booked the 3 lake boattrip and the 4x4 trip to kosi bay mouth, both are very interesting. Beautiful beach with warm water.<br/>We love to come back one day in the future.<br/>"

  • "Kosi bay lodge stay"

    07 July 2014

"It was pathetic. We were not informed to access the place, the best car is 4x4. The rooms had no TV, radio and we missed the world cup match. The price they were asking was too exorbitant to what they offered. We only stay one night without any refund from them and we do not regret the decision we took."

  • "Need to do better with service"

    23 March 2014

"The reception and welcome was poor to say the least the most important thing on arrival to them was to finalise payment? The property itself is lovely ... It's a pity they can't even leave you to enjoy a leisurely breakfast without pushing trips to do. All I would say about the lodge is that each room must have air conditioning in that heat a fan is not sufficient. If they get the service levels right and realise they need to do more for their customers this place could be wonderful!!They have a restaurant attached to the lodge which is run independently - not even able to remember a 2 drink order leaves me speechless!! Food arrived cold and had to wait so long just to get a sauce for the dish!! The bar and restaurant are owned by a lovely couple but their staff need some work!!For the money there's a lot more conveniently located establishments with better service!!"

  • "Wonderful place"

    14 December 2013

"Thanks. A wonderful place with people that is friendly and always willing to help. I will definitely go back. Food excellent."

  • "Weekend stay"

    01 October 2013

"Very nice place overall. Maybe they could try to get their own jetty for boats, that was an effort to get our boat in and out of the water!"

  • "Kosi Bay Lodge"

    12 August 2013

"The Lodge is clean and the staff is professional, but the chalets can not be regarded as self-catering. There was not even a microwave oven in our room. That means that we had to support the restaurant. The food is good, but extremely expensive. A very ordinary breakfast cost R85. The bedding is quite old and the mattresses are very very soft."

  • "Nice stay"

    01 August 2013

"We had a most enjoyable stay. Accommodation was rugged but still comfortable and well equipped. We only missed a can opener!! The spacious shower was a plus. But the heart of the chalet was the wooden deck and boma. We will recommend it to others."

  • "Nice"

  • "Lovely spot"

    04 February 2013

"A lovely, unspoiled spot. Pleasant and helpful staff (although service is a bit slow) and comfortable accommodation."

  • "Wonderful"

    14 May 2012

"We had a wonderfull stay at the lodge and I dont think you will get any better in that whole area."

  • "Great staff, beautiful nature and rustic hut"

    29 March 2012

"Thank you, we had a wonderful stay at the lodge. Nature is awsome especially at the Mouth. Recommendations are to please place doors for the bathrooms - those who slept in the kitchen had no bathroom at night - and add gauze in front of the windows to prevent mosquitoes, and one plate of the gas stove needs to be fixed and the flames in general are a bit weak."
