Memela Bush Lodge is a small intimate lodge that offers a truly authentic African experience.
Guests stay in our traditional bush-style chalets or the tented camp. Each chalet has an en-suite shower and a bush toilet. The shower and toilet area is partly open and partly covered. We serve excellent home-cooked meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner and a picnic lunch is provided when guests are out on day excursions. The tented camp consists of six tents that share the use of ablution facilities and a kitchen.
There are a variety of wonderful activities to enjoy, from beach trips, whale watching, snorkelling, scuba diving for the qualified diver, and canoeing on the Siyadla River to cultural tours to local villages, a visit to the Tembe Elephant Park and the unforgettable turtle tours where guests can see giant sea turtles lay their eggs on our beaches.
The chalets are hidden between wild date palms and thick forest and are built to resemble traditional huts. Wake up to the sounds of the birds and hippos snorting when they return to the water for the day.
We offer an intimate close encounter with yourself in a unique location. Discover Kosi Bay, the Elephant Caost, and Maputaland with our excellent guides.
"WE stayed for 4 wonderful nights. Willis was an informed host who prepared fantastic meals, and organised 3 full day trips out for my husband and I. Our room was clean and beautifully presented. Although not on mains electricity solar and a generator provided more than sufficient for our needs."
"Memela Bush Lodge is one of those places you will think about long after you've departed. It's in a remote, beautiful setting. If you don't have a 4X4 you'll need to take advantage of Wil's hospitality and Land Rover, and reserve some travel budget for activities. Will was our personal guide for much of our time there. He and Janie work very hard to make it a memorable experience. Their love of the area comes through. Food and vibe were great. The plumbed outdoor toilet and shower were a pleasure to use!"
"There is a peacefulness and calmness enveloping Memela Bush Lodge. It is truly a hidden gem.To our host with the most (Willis & his beautiful family) we cannot thank you enough for your unparalleled hospitality, generosity and warmth. The delicious home-cooked meals, the privilege of watching the sunset near the hippo pools, the trips to paradise-like beaches. I have never had a more relaxing holiday.I have no doubt Willis & Janie will continue to grow Memela from strength to strength without losing its authenticity. I cannot wait to go back to see Janie (and Lilly's) artwork and Willis's workmanship on an expanded lodge. Your commitment and hard work will see you succeed beyond your wildest dreams. If you are looking for a holiday that will connect you to yourself and the people you are travelling with better, Memela is the place for you. For relaxation in its purest form, untainted by distractions the lodge is perfect. Makes one realise TV, shopping malls and busy bars aren't necessarily the best things in a holiday or even necessary. Thanks again Willis, Janie, Lilly and Marielise."
"We spent an awesome five days and did not want to leave at the end of our stay. The beaches in the area are the best beaches in SA and the lodge is very pleasant and quiet. The turtle tour was unbelievable! We will definitely go back!"
"We, a group of 10 people, stayed overnight and was pleasantly surprised with the service we experienced. The personnel had a can-do attitude and no task was impossible. We will definitely visit them again next year!"
"Thank you so much for this incredible experience. We really enjoyed every little thing of our few days there. The hippos, the whales and, of course, your kindness. We will never forget it."
"We had a good time and enjoyable company with Isabel and Will. Excellent meals and a lovely canoe trip. We went to Tembe elephant park ourselves and had lovely experiences.Next time we should try the horses."
