The Palm Tree Lodge is located in the northernmost part of the St Lucia Wetlands and borders on the greenbelt of the Maputuland coastline. It aims to offer its guests a true feeling of the African bushveld with a little bit of the tropics.
Palm Tree Lodge offers a choice of one of the eight self-catering chalets or 10 Campsites. The chalets can sleep between three to eight people and are furnished with comfortable double or single beds. Each chalet has a private bathroom that consists of a shower only. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge-freezer, a two-plate stove and a kettle. Fans are also provided for your comfort. The chalets have private verandas and guests can make use of the barbecue facilities. The Campsites are equipped with electricity and each has a private barbecue area. The communal ablutions consist of showers only and have washbasins for dishes or laundry. The lodge also has a swimming pool, a trampoline, swings and a pool table, and is sure to keep guests entertained.
Palm Tree Lodge has always encouraged the use of the Gillies which are local guides to show visitors around, and they operate excursions such as fishing guides, tours of local attractions, game viewing trips to the nearby Thembe Elephant Park, Turtle Tours during the months of November to March, or transfers to the local beaches which are only accessible by 4x4 vehicles. A variety of bird species and animals from hippos, crocodiles and bull sharks can be seen in the area.
It is strongly recommended that travellers use 4x4 vehicles as the sands are often very thick. Please note that the use of quad bikes are forbidden as they are off-road vehicles and therefore not licensed to be on public roads; all roads around Palm Tree Lodge are considered public roads.
Palm Tree Lodge and all the local resorts are in a malaria area and guests are asked to take precautions while in the area. Feel the sand between your toes, fall asleep to the sound of palm trees rustling in the wind and marvel at the beauty of the plants and shrubs throughout Palm Tree Lodge; the ideal place to rest, relax and recharge.
"It was an absolute pleasure to stay at Palm Tree Lodge. Thanks to Jan for all the info about the correct spots to dive, etc. The staff are very friendly and they have delicious and well priced burgers at the restaurant. Will definitely stay there again. Snorkeling at the mouth was one of the highlights of our 2 week holiday in KZN. Lodge situated close to the mouth and office to obtain permits to enter the mouth."
"Most accommodating and friendly staff I've came across."
"Hosts are friendly and very helpfull very beautiful resort"
"Neat, clean, well organised.Would stay there again."
"Our much looked forward to holiday was an absolute disaster. We came home after 2 days (instead of 5) with much disappointment in our hearts.Upon booking at the Palm tree lodge nobody (not even the staff at Safari-now) informed us that we would need permits to gain accessto the beach for swimming. On our second day at Palm tree, there was a power failure (for 2 days) leaving us with no electricity to cook and running waterbecame a challenge, we had to carry buckets of water from the pool to flush the toilet. The accommodation in my opinion was sub-standard with only braai facilities and once the power was gone it made cooking a challenge due to the heavy rains and the heat in the Chalets totally unbearable.Palm tree should have at least had gas cookers or generators to counter the power failure as this is what in my opinion a serious establishment would do. The photo's of the chalets on the website are misleading as they are all linked and close together so you actually get no privacy at all. An additional disappointment to Palm Tree lodge is their version of a Restaurant. This is by far NOT a restaurant and merely a Tuck shop/Snack Bar where one could buy a Hamburger or Boerwors Roll.I would not consider dining at the restaurant for dinner as their menu is really only for snacks.Apologies to Ria for the above comments as you are extremely helpful, but I would not be doing anyone else justice if these comments were not made. When booking a holiday people save up for their hard earned holidays and all we got to show for it were two disappointed children that were bored to tears and never got to set foot on the beach."
"A beautiful place that is so well kept. We were greeted warmly and were accommodated fantastically during our stay. The owners have put so much effort into the place and also have anticipated all the small little things that make a world of difference. Thank you so much for the wonderful stay and we'll definitely be back!"
"Thank you for our lovely stay at Palm Tree Lodge. We stayed at your establishment for 3 nights and were very comfortable. The rooms are clean and provided everything we needed and my son loved the ability to play on the swings, trampoline and swim in the pool.Thank you!"
"We were very very impressed from the rooms to the bathrooms to the beautifull gardens. The linen is of a superb quality even the cutlery in the kitchen is of a high quality. Well done ria! Will definately come back and tell our friends about palm tree lodge."
"Fantastic, fantastic and fantastic. We were received and welcomed by Ria who is a really wonderful person. The place is a better place away from home. Would love to go stay there again!"
"Palm Tree Lodge in Kosi Bay is excellent accommodation! Highly recommended, chalets are of excellent quality. This Lodge is ideal for family's with children. However, if you prefer to be "out of the way" of small children, make you you mention this when booking, then the owner can allocate a chalet away from the "action" on the outskirts of the lodge. Again I say, excellent accommodation and very very friendly, efficient, kind, helpful staff!"
"We had a really great five nights at the lodge and were sad to leave. A long way from our Cape Town's winter weather. The owners are very hospitable and friendly."
