"On our arrival nothing was as we booked. We booked a cabin but the cabin was like a wendy house with a bed toilet and basin but no hot water. The cabin is locked from the outside with a padlock. The pictures on the internet made it look so beautiful. But when we got there it really was a disgrace. We end up losing the deposit."
"We thought we had booked for bed and breakfast at this guesthouse but were asked then to pay for breakfast. This was our mistake but the website should make this more clear when you book. The room was clean and comfortable but overlooked a tatty area at the rear and next doors back garden. Felix works extremely hard and is a great asset but overall not worth the money we paid."
"We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay here in a lovely setting. We were warmly welcomed by Arnold and Felix and made to feel at home. Good home cooking and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere made our visit very pleasant indeed."
"We were greeted by Felix, who seems to do everything including servicing the rooms and cooking the meals. Arnold is the owner, an ex-Rhodesian farmer. Our room was basic but quite comfortable, with an en suite shower room. One small bar of soap was supplied, with two black bath towels. We had an adequate dinner with no dessert offered, and breakfast was good. Tea and coffee are available for self service."
"We had a very unpleasant experience at Apple Valley Guest House. The picture and information is totally misleading. Our 'cottage' was a Wendy House directly next to the servant quaters. This meant that the workers and their guests passed our front door frequently, and the owner had to silence the party next door at 22h30 when I could not take the racket any more. There is also no electricity in the room (the owner was kind enough to put an extention cord through the window which meant the window could not close properly). The common bathroom is something we are accustom to, but this one was a real disapointment! The door could not close propperly (probably because of the rain, but stil, a bathroom door not closing?) and then it had no latch or lock on the inside; this meant that anybody could enter the common bathroom with you inside. This is not acceptable, really! Further more it is not possible to exit the premissis without finding somebody to open the remote gate. This meant that we were walking up and down, shout, clang the door, hoot, anything to get attention, to no avail. I felt like a hooligan to get attention to be able to exit the premisis for a drive in the country. A very dissapointing experience indeed."
"Marvellous hosts. Good food, seriously good breakfast, best spinach ever. Clean rooms. Stunning view."
"My daughters and I stayed at Apple Valley Guesthouse both ways on our trip. Our host was friendly, helpful and a fountain of very interesting information about the surrounding area as well as places along our proposed route. The chef was helpful and friendly and the breakfasts were what one expects from a proper farm breakfast and couldn't be faulted. They were all we needed to set us up for a day's driving! I would definitely recommend Apple Valley to friends."
"Very pleasant. Clean rooms and friendly hosts. Lovely chef."
