"We loved the Karoo experience. The Swanepoels are excellent hosts and the house good for its age.<div>A couple of plastic chairs to sit on around the braai fire would be welcome additions. You could then move into shade or sun to read / drink / eat or doze on the chair! Maybe a two plate gas cooker too.</div><div>Kind regards and thanks for the hospitality June and Francis</div>"

    26 January 2015

"Harsh world outside, the night sky a gem, hospitality is excellent."

  • "Good stopover"

    02 July 2014

"We enjoyed our one night stay...was a bit disappointed because we were not allowed to make a fire in the lovely fireplace in the livingroom...it was freezing and a fire would have made it so much more cosy. The owner did provide extra blankets and warm water bottles though."

  • "Not so nice"

    03 September 2013

"We stayed in the 1 Bedroom Cottage. Thank goodness for the extra blankets, else we would have froze to death. No stove, no heater and no hot water at basin or sink. Otherwise clean & neat."

  • "Karoo repose"

"Very neat, spacious and comfortable. The provision of the basic utensils for self-catering is adequate. I love the tranquillity of the vicinity."

  • "Not very professional hosts"

    30 December 2012

"My initial impression was favourable despite the location being close to noisy highway and train track. The old house was charming...the wife of the owner not. She took it upon herself to reprimand and threaten my 6 year old for something she did not have all the facts of. I feel that her behaviour was rude and unprofessional. This incident coloured my view of our stay.. I would not stay at the Blokhuis with children. They are not tolerant of kids and there are safety issues they need to address."

  • "Enjoyed it"

  • "Enjoyed"

    09 September 2012

"We enjoyed our stay - the place was spotlessly clean. The only suggestion we can make to improve the accommodation is that it would be nice if there was a heater or fire grate in the house. The kitchen does have a hearth but no wood or coal was available to light a fire as it was a cold evening."

"Ons het baie lekker oorgeslaap in die pragtige ou huis. Alle geriewe wat 'n mens nodig het is daar. Alles was mooi skoon en gerieflik. En die sterre was so mooi! We had a very nice stay in the beautiful old house. All the facilities you need is there. Everything was clean and comfortable. The stars were so beautiful!"

  • "Not in winter"

    05 September 2011

"Only heat source a microwave oven, kettle and hot water in the shower. The fireplace may not be used, no heater due to the low electricity supply. Even the kettle dims the light extensively. The coldest night I can remember, except for a tent in winter. We did receive two hot water bottles after asking about a heater. The welcome was good and the old farmhouse clean and neat as can be. The silence was welcome except for the odd train passing nearby."

  • "Perfect overnight stop"

    30 January 2010

"A quaint, well kept well priced place with a friendly owner and perfect for an overnight stop if you are travelling through the Karoo. However, if you stay there over the busy Christmas period, the traffic from the highway fairly close by is a bit intrusive and disturbing through the night.Noordhoek, Western cape"
