The Five Assegais Lodge is a beautiful stone farmhouse, nestled on a 1500 ha nature conservancy. There are wonderful views stretching all the way across the Komati Gorge Valley to Swaziland. If you dont enjoy large resorts this will be your idea of heaven.
We offer four well-stocked trout dams, two of the dams are exclusive to lodge guests; the dams are wonderful to swim in. Try our stunning hiking trails ranging from a nice little walk to the more challenging 13.5 km Escarpment Trail. Explore gorges, indigenous forests, sandstone labyrinths and waterfalls galore. The Uitkomst Falls are the second highest in Mpumalanga. Spot buck game - zebra, hartebeest and wilderbeest - and catch up on some birding including fish eagles, hammerkops and Bald Ibis.
You can set aside the troubles of the world, listening to the sounds of nature around a fire after an amazing hike and excellent fishing.
Five Assegais Country Estate is situated just three hours from Johannesburg. We are midway between Machadodorp and Badplaas in Mpumalanga. We are en route to Kruger National Park, Swaziland and Mozambique.
"The place is well situated, staff are friendly and the setting was absolutely beautiful. Our stay was a great value for money and we are definitely staying there again."
"A TOTAL LET DOWN FOR OUR 21ST WEDDING ANN. WE ENDED UP LEAVING AFTER THE FIRST DAY. WE WERE DECEIVED AND DOUBLE BOOKED. I WONT RECCOMEND SAFARI OR FIVE ASSEGAIS. THE COUPLE WHO WERE ALSO BOOKED HAD A BIRTHDAY. I AM SURE THEY ARE JUST AS DISGUSTED."
"Beautiful house at a beautiful location. One can see that when everything was still new and in working condition things were brilliant. Small things lacked which should not have for a 4 star house at such a high price. One of the shower heads was broken, rats in the roof, rats ate and urinated in under the fridge, the smell was so bad we had to move the fridge to another room. All the lights globes was not fitted. And the last night some unknown people went into one of the rooms of the house although we've booked out the whole house.Positives: Brilliant staff, unbelievably helpful and good at what they do. They have definitely saved the day for us. <br><b>Establishment's Response:</b><br><i>The staff and I are deeply embarrassed about the mouse that decided to die behind or rather in the fridge works, not one of the joys of country life. This has been dealt with, we also do our best with our cat and the application of poison but the rats and other wildlife do also so love the lodge, and I have checked every faucet and fitting but cannot find the faulty shower mentioned? We try to maintain the lodge at the very highest standards possible out here, and indeed a circuit in the roof was out and is being replaced, but sadly this cannot be achieved with alacrity of city life. I am sure that the next guest will have perfect lights.Once again I apologise for the faults mentioned and appreciate the feedback. The mystery visitor was my nieces friend that arrived unexpectedly and was going to share her bedroom but as the one suite was not being used we allowed her in there, I thought that the staff who arranged this had informed the guests of this, but one way or another they were in no way disaccommodated.</i>"
"We really enjoyed our experience at the Fisherman's Lodge even if the weather didn't really allow for long walks during the first 2 days we could read in front of the fireplace etc. The lodge is tastefully decorated, the views awesome and I think our labrador enjoyed it most."
"Warm hosts, comfortable accommodation, spectacular views and fantastic fly-fishing. Highly recommended!"
"All six members of our party thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the lodge. It is excellently equipped and very well appointed with all the mod cons and 'nice to haves'. We opted for the self catering option, but were saved the hassle of having to clean up after our exploits in the kitchen as Poppie was always on hand to help out. I would highly recommend this lodge to anybody looking for a relaxing break which is less than 3 hours out of Joburg."
"The accommodation was for 2 colleagues who said that they enjoyed there stay enormously and that they would return at any given time. They said that it was relaxing, clean, friendly and wish they could have stayed longer to enjoy all other activities. Gill McOnie was excellent and went out of her way to find alternative accommodation for me and SafariNow should be proud of having such a person in their employ who is efficient, friendly and so helpfull (she is a star). Thanks a lot Gill I appreciate all your effort and coming through for me."

"We loved this place because of its history and unique setting. Unfortunately, we arrived late at night and had to leave early for the Kruger Park. It is very clean and comfortable but we did miss having a tea pot available."
"I really loved the setup and the atmosphere"
