We stayed in the Leopard Suites with our two little dogs and couldn't have hoped for a better break.<div>Aloe and Ibis trails are both well worth doing, nice birds to spot and 4by4 trail was also fun.<div>Don't forget to take a good book to read in the hammocks on the stoep of the cottages as the fire burns ... bliss.</div></div></div>"

"Komati Gorge Lodge is a wonderful place where you can relax and leave the busy city life behind. The animals are roaming about freely and you can do your own safari drive. I enjoyed the quad bikes a lot (probably because I was in control of the bike more than I was of the horse that I rode -Ceaser). The horse was such a character, I've never had a horse make me laugh that much... that is why my boyfriend and I have decided to go back in two weeks. For fishing and mountain biking this time. We may squeeze in some archery time as well."

"Komati Gorge Lodge is an outstanding place for a real breakaway. We had a wonderful stay in the Kingfisher chalet. Everything is up to standard, very neat and clean and everyone was so friendly since our arrival. The magnificent views brought us all to a standstill and made relaxing our first priority. We had a great time!"

  • "Wish we could have stayed longer!"

    26 November 2013

"An easy and scenic two and a half hours from JHB led us to Komati Gorge Lodge. The staff are absolutely amazing! And could not do enough for us! We stayed for two nights in the self catering Leopard suite for two, which is spacious, is well catered with a full range of lovely amenities and beautifully decorated. The layout of the farm is cosy, with the various rooms quite close to each other, but strangely enough, not in the slightest bit intrusive! It was about 75% capacity and the most people we saw at a given time was 7!once! There is a lovely pool area and mini beach right on the river front! Canoes and pedal boats take you up a heavenly stretch( quite short), of river, with the farms resident dogs swimming along with you, to a small and very private section of flat rocks, where you can picnic. The restaurant is beautiful with a small menu. The food was good but not fabulous. We found most stuff was not seasoned prior to cooking.A great place for your dogs! No barkers please! It it way too peaceful for noisy animals! The hiking trails are not well marked! We would definitely go back!"

  • "Very pleasant accommodation in a lovely setting"

    21 February 2013

"I stayed at the Komati Gorge Lodge as an overnight stop on a business trip. Thus, I was not their 'conventional' type of guest, since the lodge caters primarily for weekend tourists who come to fish, hike and relax. The setting on the banks of the Komati River is lovely. Whilst the nature reserve has no 'big game', you'll see buck and hear the baboons booming calls from the cliff opposite the lodge. There are also some archeological remains of prehistoric kraals in the reserve, which can be accessed via walking trails. The food was excellent (which is good news as it's a very long drive to the nearest restaurant). I had deep fried parmesan risotto balls and a rump steak to follow, both of which were delicious. The price - R995 for dinner, bed and breakfast - was reasonable, particularly compared to trout lodges in the region. Just bear in mind that the last 5km or so are on a dirt road through the nature reserve, and access may be difficult for low slung sedan cars after heavy rain."
