Bernally's Fishing Lodge

Bernally's Fishing Lodge is a peaceful getaway situated in the heart of the Magaliesburg. The lodge has very basic self-catering units that overlooks the dams, stocked with a variety of fish, as well as campsites.

The quaint thatched cottage offers the perfect quiet retreat ideal for a couple. It has an open-plan design with a lounge, bedroom, bathroom ( bath ) and kitchen.
The lounge area has seating and a fireplace. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge/freezer, a toaster, a 2 plate gas stove a kettle, toaster and basic cutlery and crockery and cooking utensils. The cottage has a private patio and braai area looking over the dam.

Chalet Kingfisher is a fully equipped for self-catering. The unit has two bedrooms furnished with double beds with bedding as well as a small kitchen with fridge/ freezer, basic crockery and cutlery as well as basic cooking utensils. There is a bathroom ( shower ).
There is a lounge area with cosy fireplace and the patio has a table and six chairs as well as a braai and spot to make a nice campfire.

The Giant Heron Chalet is ideal for large families and is fully equipped for self-catering. The unit has 2 bedrooms furnished with double beds with bedding. there is a double sleeper couch in the lounge area with bedding. there is a kitchen with fridge/freezer and bathroom ( shower ). there is a lounge area with fireplace. on the patio there is a braai and a table and 6 chairs. there is also a natural rock splash pool for your use. There is also a lappa next to the unit with a large bar counter and bar stools if you wish to do a bit of partying.
There is a large braai and a spot to make a nice campfire.

For campers wishing to bring their own tents, campers or caravans, there are 40 campsites available near the water. There are plug points, lamp posts and taps at each site. please note these plug points are only for extra lights, cell phones lap tops bare fridges, please bring gas to cook on and boil water, no kettles or hot plates can be run on these plug points.
Communal ablutions for men and ladies are available with hot and cold water as well as wash up are for dishes etc.

The rate displayed is for site hire only and an additional cost of R100 per person per night is applicable. The property has four dams with bass, red and blue kurper, barbel, yellow fish and carp.

NB* Please take note, our main dam is empty due to bad rainfall, however our 4 smaller dams are relatively full and fishing is good.

Please note we are mainly a bass and fly fishing facility, no specimen carp fishing can be done, however we do stock all the other fish species. Please note our main dam is empty due to bad rainfall, however the two smaller dams are low however fishing is good.

"As assured by Bernally's, this is not luxurious living, I did miss having a toilet to go to at night (we took a simple fisherman's cabin), but we got away for a few days on a very tight budget and that's all that matters to us. 1 out of 3 nights was extremely cold so that unit is probably best for a spring / summer sleep. I will definitely go again, but will opt for a better unit. They have the most friendly dog who visited our unit every night. Found the ablutions really tidy and got hot water out the shower (very rare for ablutions). The other guests also respected everyone in terms of music etc."

"Nothing to enjoy really!Needs alot of attention because there is no proper parking for ur car to park,no activities for children, the dams are dried up and not expected like showed on the pictures,and we felt like turning around the very same minute we got there.It was very unsafe for us, because alot of people past by behind the lodge at night and making quite alot of noise.Only the fence seperates us from the knight walkers and drunk people walking around all night long.Music was playing very loudly from the local locations side so we could not even sleep for the night.The lighting was also very bad because u can't say u going to take a walk at night and enjoy the evening because of the lighting very dark and feel unsafe.We slept on a bed that felt like u sleeping directly on springs.We payed for a bag of wood and we never got our change back from the owner.Last but not least,the sand road is endlessly very very long before getting to the lodge and there is no security guards for u to enter we had to phone before getting in and waiting a very long time to enter the premise."

"Bernally's fishing lodge is nice place to enjoy your weekend or vacation. We have stayed there for 1 day, but I think next time we will stay for 2 days :) Its good value for money and if you choose the tents provided by them, then you don't need to worry about the tents and setting up and other things related to that. You can just enjoy your time there, relax, listen to songs, dance, all in the nature on lake side. Amazing place and relaxing experience :)"

"At first when we arrived, they were not aware of the reservation at all. The people were under the influence of alcohol. Took us to the dam where we had to wait, what should have been 10 min to fetch the key, took over an hour. We were then placed in a chalet not even close to the dam. It's a total shocker! Nothing looks like the advertisment on the internet! No electricity, dirty and scruffy to say the least. Very disappointed and lost my money for nothing!"

"The accommodation was basic but adequate.We were comfortable and slept well.It was lovely to be surrounded by nature. At this time of the year the dams are low but several of the fishermen caught fish. Interesting and varied bird life.Thank you for the mowed pathways and verges near the dams, it really helps.We were happy to be able to take our two small dogs and they enjoyed the walks... were taken aback at the horses... something new to the city-lickers. "If you love spiders the fishers mans cabin would be ideal for you. I have never in my life seen a peach spider before and not one, more than 15 in the cabin. The place was dirty it looked like it was not cleaned for months, the cabin is small you cant evens hear yourself fart in that place, the main dam is dry and they told me 4days before arriving and i quote " 65% full due to bad rain fall" but it looked like that dam dried up ages ago .I personally would not recommend Bernally's fishing lodge to anybody. "

"The owners were very friendly and the fact that I could take my dogs with was wonderful, but, I went there to get away from the fire works in JHB, sadly there were fireworks in Magalies. Clearly not Bernally's fault. I also think the rate is a bit pricey for this type of room. A fan in the room would have been great.Overall it was a great get away."
