Magalies Wild Game Farm

Magalies Wild Game Farm is situated in the Magaliesburg Nature Reserve/Biosphere, where bird life is abundant. Game on the farm includes kudu, blesbok, impala, zebra and ostriches. Grey duikers, warthogs, as well as night prowlers such as porcupines, honey badgers, servile cats and jackals can also be seen from time to time.

The fully self-catering accommodation on the farm is in the form of Loerie Cottage - a luxury cottage that sleeps six to eight people in two en-suite bedrooms and a loft with a fold down couch plus two stretcher beds. The cottage has full DSTV and a boma with braai.

Sunflower Huts - sleeps four in two wooden cabins featuring its own kitchen and bathroom facilities all under one roof. The camp is a wonderful outdoor experience and is fenced. There is a special doggie yard complete with s splash pool for them to enjoy a dip.

Leopard Bush Camp - sleeps four to six people and is a real bush experience, located off the grid, so there is no electricity. Solar powered lights, a gas stove and geyser and a lovely boma area for a night under the stars with a fire to keep warm. The farm features a secluded bush swimming pool overlooking the magnificent Magaliesburg Mountain and a picturesque picnic area in the bush with all amenities (a flushing toilet with a wash basin, as well as a sink to rinse dishes) for all guests to enjoy.

Please note, the Bush Camp is in the bush and a vehicle with low profile tyres might not get there without having a tummy scratch. Any other vehicles are fine. Crates of firewood may be purchase on the farm. There is a resident Jack Russell and Staffie on the farm from time to time.

On the day of departure you may stay on the property until early evening, if there is no booking for the following day. Pre-authorisation will be required. Easy day drives to Maropeng, Pilansburg, Sun City, Rhino and Lion Park, Sterkfontein Cave, Hartebeepoort Dam, Rustenburg. Magaliesburg is 28km from the farm. There are many quaint shops and restaurants in the area and a preditor park 10km away.

Activities on the farm include walking, hiking and mountain biking in a safe environment with marked trails. You can bring your mountain bike but rather leave the motorcycles at home. Our animals are used to people in close proximity and we would like to keep it that way.

"We really enjoyed the quietness and peaceful environment.A table to eat inside would be helpfull as there was a lot of flying insects outside. We were not prepared to be fenced in with a time limit of 17h00 while the outside camps had no time limit. This also counts for the swimming pool area that is closed by 17h00. It would be fair to inform people that they will not have the view that the other units have, because the Lodge is fenced in."

"We had a wonderful time. The accommodation is very nice and tidy and the DSTV helped this breastfeeding mommy a lot in the middle of the night. We went for lovely, peaceful walks with our baby (in a pram, quite a mission on a dirt road) and our dogs, but didn't drive around too much because some of the roads on the farm are not all accessable by a car (you'll need a 4x4). We felt welcome and safe during our stay and will certainly visit again."

"We enjoyed the relative peace and quiet of the bushcamp. All nessesary basics are provided, a comfortable bed and nice braai area ensured we came away refreshed. There are well marked out walking and MTB trails, when we visited the area it was still awaiting rains, but one can imagine how beautiful it will be when the stream is running and the dam full. We can really recommend the farm if the bush and peace and quiet is what you want. We would only recommend that proper charging facilities be provided for cellphones etc., yet have to mention the friendly owners had no qualms to charge it at their home, also there is a power point at the swimming pool. Thanks for a relaxing and enjoyable breakaway!"

"The bed, in my opinion may be replaced, as it was not as comfortable to sleep on as expected. But overall I loved it at Magalies Wild Game Farm. Establishment's Response: We were unaware of the problem as the guest did not comment while on the farm. Obviously we would have rectified the issue immediately. The mattress in the Loerie has since been replaced to ensure a comfortable sleep. "

"We really enjoyed our stay at Magalies Wild Game Farm, although we were only able to be there for a few days.Our host, Andre, was very welcoming, friendly and helpful, even assisting us when our old dog developed an abscess on his paw.His knowledge of the natural environment brought it to life for us - and he even taught us fascinating techniques for tracking both large animals and insects. We stayed in Sunflower Hut, which has a lovely rustic feel to it and particularly enjoyed the farm's pool, which boasts a spectacular view of the Magaliesberg range. We'd definitely recommend this as a bush getaway that's close to Joburg, but which offers a complete break from city life. "

"We stayed in the Loerie Bungalow -clean, comfy, spacious, with a great braai area. It even has a mini-garden for the furry ones! Andre was very accommodating and also took us on a sunset game drive. He was extremely knowledgeable and impressive. Highly recommended are the walks which are not that difficult. The game (buck, zebra , ostriches and more) are plenty and easy to spot. A great break away from the city."

"We stayed in Sunflower Hut and it had everything we could need! There were even bowls for our furkid (in case we forgot to bring for her). We spent most of the weekend walking around and saw Zebra, Kudu, Blesbok, Ostriches and more! Andre was very friendly and helpful and told us which routes to avoid, because we had a 6 month old puppy with us and it was her first trip to a game farm. We look forward to returning :)"

The dogs on the farm are well socialised and made friends with mine straight away so I had no worries.The secluded pool area was a great place to have a G&T and watch yet another beautiful bushveld sunset.
