  "We stayed in the Bush Lodge. The first time we stayed at Mamagalie, we stayed in Forest Lodge and this time we tried Bush Lodge. Both times it was fantastic! The views from all areas of the lodge over the bush and Buffelspoort Dam are incredible. We parked our car at the start of the weekend and didn't get back into it until we left at the end of the weekend. The perfect break. If you are looking for total relaxation, this is the place. The splash pool is big enough for a couple, the braai area is perfectly situated and if you are energetic there is a 5km hike up the mountain to natural springs. This lodge is perfect for friends or couples. It's not ideal for families with small children as there are lots of stairs and open balustrades and older people may struggle with the stairs especially as the toilet and bathroom is on the ground floor and the kitchen is on the second floor with the bedrooms on the first floor. Other then that, this was a much needed break away and the owners are so warm, hospitable and helpful."

Whilst there were some small issues with the outside shower and jacuzzi, Melanie was there to sort this out promptly. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back!"

We had the most peaceful, relaxing weekend we've had in years! The lodge is extremely private &amp; really provided the "break from the world" that we needed. The lodge has everything you need in terms of linen, crockery, cutlery, etc. &amp; is beautifully maintained &amp; clean. The bathroom is just stunning - no blinds or curtains required! The outside shower is an added bonus. The lodge has it's own private splash pool &amp; braai area. The bird-life is abundant, and we spotted vervet monkeys &amp; a small buck on our walk around the farm. Great value for money! We will definitely be back :)"

  "The scenery is very beautiful and worth a thousand words. But was like you are staying in a prison with the big bush of keys, of which was not clearly marked so you stood for a while going one by one till you found the right one. Not enough warm blankets for a cold night, the fire place was good but if you don't bring enough wood of your own you are stuffed. Did not feel the warm welcome they say on their site and would feel scared to ask for extra wood because you are afraid that the delivery cost is more that the wood itself. It will be a good stay in the summer when you don't need a warm shower. <br><b>Establishment's Response:</b><br><i>Yes there is a big bunch of keys but it is certainly not difficult to master. When you went off the farm on Saturday morning you will recall that you forced the wrong key into the main gate thereby breaking it off, I came down and opened for you using the correct key on the bunch. However your comments are noted and we will try and come up with a colour code scheme. If you recall from your initial booking you mailed me to say you had booked the wrong dates and asked me to transfer them for you, this I did at no charge despite being within my rights to do so. At the same time I suggested that you should look at the Forest Lodge as an option as it was more suitable in winter for a baby, you specifically declined that option. In the Bush Lodge there is a winter duvet, heavy comforter and an additional blanket. We feel that this is sufficient under normal conditions but at no point did you indicate that you would like any more and this of course does not give us the opportunity to assist you. In respect of the wood: We offer to deliver wood for you prior to arrival, with no delivery charge, the staff take this up when they go to make up the lodges on the day of arrival, you chose not to utilise this offer. Why do we say we will charge for deliveries? Well, there is a very real cost involved in terms of time and use of vehicle to deliver. We are in the hospitality trade but we also have a value to our time and for us to drop what we are doing, go and load wood and thereafter deliver has a recoverable cost, you did not enquire about the delivery cost or ask to collect from the farm store at any point so to say that this service is unaffordable is devoid of truth.In respect of the warm welcome I can only say that in discussion with my wife who checked you in, indicates that she spent over 30 minutes with you to take you to the lodge, show you where everything is and generally discussing security and other relevant details for your stay. She is somewhat confused as to how she came across as unfriendly and perhaps you could be more specific?In respect of the cold water I am again only made aware of this after your departure, if you give us the opportunity to rectify something during your stay we are always happy to do so. I ensured that the gas geyser was on for the weekend as we felt that the solar heater would not be sufficient given the weather prediction. My staff are instructed to test this and they reported to me that it was in good working order, I will go and inspect it myself to see if that is the case, I do however reiterate, and Melanie reinforced this at check in, that if something is not to your liking during your stay to please contact us, you made no such calls and thereby again deny us the opportunity to assist you.I personally think that you received exceptional service and value for money, even when you triggered the alarm accidentally at 3 am, I drove up to ensure that you were OK, surely this reflects a premium that we place on our guests? On departure we had a friendly, long, wide ranging conversation where you had the opportunity to mention some of the problems you encountered and did not do so, instead choosing to place a damning comment on the SafariNow website, surely you give someone the opportunity to rectify what is not to your liking before placing such comments on a public forum?In closing, please let me assure you that we strive to offer exceptional accommodation at very affordable prices, and while we try to ensure that everything is perfect for your stay, it may be that circumstances beyond our control dictate otherwise. I have however always personally attended to any faults that may develop during a stay both promptly and in a friendly manner and at all times of the day and night. Almost 50% of our business is returning guests and we are generally full 4-6 weeks in advance throughout the year, I would like to think then, that your comments are an exception rather than the norm. We would appreciate any constructive ideas you may have that would assist us in improving the standard of our accommodation.</i>"

The favourite of course, was the Bush Lodge, with it's part tented bedroom and lounge area, and the view over the valley and dam! I can truly say that I felt this was outstanding value for money! The attention to detail made it an extremely comfortable self catering break! The whole ambiance of the lodge was magical! We loved it, and if we were local, would be there regularly - still, it's a definite on our return when we go to SA for our daughter's graduation in a few years time!Highly, highly recommend it - absolute tranquility for you to recharge your batteries, and sense nature's miracles around you!"

The extreme privacy of the lodge makes it an ultimate weekend break-away destination. We still wanted to explore the whole Magalies Meander but never left the lodge. Even though the road to the lodge is pure 4x4 route and not a BMW sedan like ours our would rather borrow a vehicle next time than change the road as it only compliments the whole idea of privacy and exclusivity.
