  "The view an surrounds we not great but the cottages were lovely inside. Fire wood was available at reception but we did not find very friendly assistance. Visit the nearby Black Horse Brewery - this will make your trip worthwhile."

  "I loved everything about the chalets, the privacy that each chalet have gives that comfort and I like the way we were welcomed by Gustav and Rika and the employees, it was more like home away from home."

  "I'm so dissapointed. We didn't get a warm welcoming from the owner. He is so rude. It looked like we were lost when we arrived. The grass is not well taken care of. Rooms are not clean enough, there's spiders in every room, we couldn't sleep. When we went to the pool area we had to call one of the housekeepers to escort us because we are afraid of dogs. There's dogs look like Lions, we told the owner that we are afraid of dogs, in he's own words "they won't bite you, they smell fear and if you're afraid then they bite you" The place is not as advertised. Safari please do something about this lodge. I wouldnt recommend anyone to go to that lodge."

  "Lovely little cottages just out of Magaliesberg town... Rika and Gustav were welcoming as well as all the staff... Clean rooms, delicious simple breakfast, lovely gardens. We really enjoyed our weekend getaway. Will definitely go back for a break from city life."

  "Ons het die bespreeking op baie kort kennisgewing gedoen, maar was baie vriendelik ontvang, kamers is baie skoon en die buite lug stort is n belewenis. Matlapa het n pragtige tuin met groot swenbad ek het die naweek daar regtig geniet dt was baue rustig en stil. al at kort is so bietjie van n wandel padjie. daar is nie veel om te doen as mens net by die loge tuisgaan en nie van plan is om rond te ry nie. maar afgesien daarvan sal ek Matlapa vir enige iemand aanbeveel. ek het gegaan omdat ek rustigheid nodig gehad het en ds presies wat ek gekry het. baie dankie aan die annie en die oom daar, hulle is baie vriendelike mense en laat mens regtig welkom voel ek sal verseker weer daar tuisgaan."

  "When we got there, it looked like we lost. The garden is not maintained. The reception was okay. The outside showers had spiderweb, the bed is too old n not comfortable. We could go for breakfast cos there were dogs everywhere n they kept barking at us n we scared of dogs. We only stayed one night but we booked for 2. Safari must also do an update on this places m check if they are still up to standard instead of making us book places that are not up to standard cos they don't check. I booked through safari cos I believed they made sure the places are what they are on the pics"

  "<p>Not a place to be visited again. On arrival the first thing the owner said after greeting was "you better pay the balance now as I don't and won't have time to be chasing you around tomorrow".<br></br><br></br></p><p>It was clear after seeing the room why he insisted on receiving paying before we had stepped into the room. Cob webs lined the thatch room and spiders regularly strolled the wall. The breakfast offered is sub standard even for a 3 star hotel. Re: staff and customer service. The less said the better.</p>"

  "<p>I so enjoyed my stay at Matlapa Lodge and would do it again any day. The cosy chalets with clean linen were the best. I loved the intimacy of the chalets lapas which allow for an intimate braai with friends.</p><p>I also enjoyed the breakfast and the hospitality of the staff. Rika is great and we found his husband to be great too. The Chinese Chow dogs are adorable and giveMatlapa Lodge a unique and homely feeling.</p><p>For a quietweekend away with friends or family, Matlapa is your best bet in Magaliesburg.</p><p>Monako &amp; Friends</p>"

  "At arriving at Matlapa Lodge we where greeted by two growling dogs. Once the owner arrived he insisted that we pay upfront for the remainder of our accomodation period. We where then escorted to out chalet with excusses of the resort not having had much rain and therefore the condition of the gardens! Our chalet was an interesting one with numerous items not maintained for many years! The standard of the internal and external finishes is sub-standard and of a unpleasant nature. Our breakfast was something you would expect from a 1 or 2 star facility with the same growling dogs making their appearance now and then in the dining room. We had to exchange our kettle because the one we had was leaking like a sif and smelling like moth balls! Overall I feel that we have been robbed because the website and promotions of Matlapa Lodge and the reality of the venue are two diferent things."

  "Overall we had a pleasant stay. The rooms and facilities are nicely decorated, the garden is lush and green and the owners and staff helpful and friendly. The breakfast was pretty standard but tasty. The enclosed outside shower is a winner! Minor niggles: The ceiling in the bathroom had serious mildew on it, which is maybe understandable after two weeks of solid rain, but it looks like no attempt was made to clean it. Also the really cheap hollow core bathroom door has seen better days and even if new would be out of character with the general standard of the buildings.Another Suggestion: While much of the quasi-antique furniture adds to the rustic atmosphere, some items of furniture look more like they come out of an 80s motel room and actually detract from what is otherwise a tastefully decorated "rustic" look."

  "The self catering options available are definitely not up to standard and some maintenance to be done on general work around the lodge and the rooms, but other than that our stay was relaxing. the rooms are comfortable. Environment is nice and quiet. What I disliked was the fact that no rules and regulations were set in the rooms and during the Saturday we experienced some noise due to loud neighbours and this place is advertised as a quiet, peaceful setting. The restaurant was available but we were a little uncertain of the breakfast and other facilities as the communication between management and the guest are not up to standard upon arrival. We had our meals of site, and this is a B&B. But besides all this, my husband and I had a relaxing weekend and we enjoyed our stay in the mountains."

  "My girlfriend and I unfortunately only spent one night at Matlapa Lodge but would like to have spent a couple of days there. A lovely lodge just on the outskirts of Magaliesburg Town on the hill overlooking the town. The restaurant and patio have beautiful views of the undulating landscape below. The room was very nice and with everything you may need and a pleasant warm décor. Just a note, there was no TV in the room. Rika and Gustav, our hosts were friendly and warm. If you want some peace and you want to unplug for a few days, I recommend the lodge!"
