Forest Bird Lodge

Forest Bird Lodge is situated in an evergreen forest, secluded among indigenous trees, just outside of Tzaneen.

The lodge gives a feeling of anticipation for fairies and other woodland creatures, and the mist creeping through the forest gives it a mystical atmosphere.

The forest gives complete privacy, where guests can feel at one with nature. Various birds can be seen from the lodge as well as Samango monkeys that forage in the trees.

There are short walks along the mountain stream with beautiful waterfalls. A more strenuous walk takes you up through the forest to a lovely lookout point of the valley. Mountain bike trips of 5 km can also be enjoyed along the forest road.

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The surroundings are stunning and the staff are very friendly, but their English is very limited. All information in the cabin is clearly noted and set out, but unfortunately no distances are indicated on the various walks. The warm water system can definitely be improved as the heated water isn't very clean. The directions aren't very clear and there is no board stating the venue name at the entrance,when this was queried the response was quite blunt and abrupt,which put a dampner on things even before our arrival. Other than our dealings with a lady named Anne, we really enjoyed our stay."

"We loved our stay in your beautiful secluded log cabin in the forest. Truly a piece of heaven. The cabin is lovely with thought given to making one's stay comfortable and cosy. We loved having no TV and being able to switch off and just be quiet. The nature walks down to the river were a highlight, the area is glorious. The hostess is an extremely friendly and warm person who helped us in whatever way she could. Next time I would go for longer!"

"We had a really great time. We were able to relax and take in the beauty of the mountains and the forests.<br/>There are numerous little restaurants that are close by if you dont want to do the cook at home thing, but the facilities are great.<br/><br/>Would recommend it to anyone wanting to get away from the city for a few days :)"

"We rented the Log Cabin for 2 nights over New Year and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The cottage is fully equipped with everything you can imagine. The outside showers is fantastic, and we also loved the fact that the cottage gets serviced. As it was rainy most of the time, we spent it in the cottage and at the outside fireplace when possible, so didn't go for any walks. Being up in the trees when looking out the bedroom windows is magnificent.Will definitely be back."
