Kaoxa Bush Camp, in the Limpopo Valley, comprises three intimate stone and thatch cottages and three luxury Safari tents, all with en-suite bathrooms. They open onto your own personal deck overlooking an extraordinary vista.
The camp has electricity but is not air-conditioned. There is a communal kitchen with an electric oven, gas hob, and fridge and freezer space. All utensils and crockery are provided. You can have your meals in the attractive dining room or around a crackling fire in the authentic boma with its own braai facilities, making for a wonderfully atmospheric African experience.
We have an unusually shaped swimming pool in which to cool off in the hottest months. There are dangerous animals on the farm, so due care should be exercised when enjoying the beauty of the bush. Just a short walk from the camp is arguably the finest San rock art shelter in the Limpopo Province. There are annotated information boards to help with the interpretation of the fantastic images. It boasts the only locust images anywhere in the world.
Elephants are frequent visitors in the camp. They often enjoy a drink in the waterhole in front of the cottages. In the early morning, be entertained by the lovely, colourful lizards as they warm themselves on the rocks surrounding the camp. Mapungubwe National Park's entrance gate is only a ten minute drive away. Here you can see and learn about the first African Kingdom. This area is a World Heritage Site and our farm, as well as being declared a National Heritage Site, is included in this.
Great attention is paid to preserving the delicate ecology of the area and to reducing our carbon footprint. The Tuli elephants, originally from across the Limpopo Rivers, are now considered wandering residents. They criss-cross the farm, and can often be seen drinking from the waterhole right in front of the camp. These gentle giants need all the space they can get, and as the area is opened up, they will hopefully one day soon use their old migratory routes to the East. Enjoy the extraordinary sounds of an African sunset as night falls and the bush echoes with the calls of Barking Geckos. The camp has been built in harmony with nature, allowing you to feel at one with the African bush in the midst of the koppies (rocky hills), surrounded by Kalahari sand and ancient Baobab trees.
The area, Limpopo Valley, is an ancient, arid, unspoiled part of Africa, yet to be discovered. Kaoxa Bush Camp is in the Limpopo-Shashi confluence area near the boundaries of Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa. The Limpopo Valley is known for its majestic Baobab trees. Kaoxa bush Camp comprises of three intimate cottages built with stone and thatch and three luxury safari tents, all with en-suite bathrooms. They open onto your own personal deck overlooking an extraordinary vista.
Information displayed in the camp about the inhabitants of the bushveld, and remains from the Bushman culture will enrich your stay with us. The new Mapungubwe National Park is also on our doorstep, just a ten minute drive to the main entrance.
"A bit disappointed in the tent that we stayed.I am sure we paid for a chalet, because the price that we paid not worth to stay in tent"
"We love the view, they can build a second braai if there is a lot off people that one braai isnt going to work."
"We spent a miserable night at Kaoxa as no blankets were provided and our tents nearly blew to pieces. Also on arrival we were not properly briefed on things to do and see. Would definitely not recommend it."
"Enjoyed our stay, very special lodge. Need to discover more places like this. A real gem."

"Nice venue."
"Super friendly staff, beautiful scenery, wonderful sunsets and peace and quiet. We will definitely be back, seeing that Mapungubwe National Park is also situated so close to Kaoxa. Your views and especially the lookout over the Limpopo valley with convenient benches to relax on, was divine. The only negative point was that it was over so quickly and we had to return to the daily grind! Thank you Jabulani and Julia for your hospitality!"
"A beautiful lodge in outstanding landscape. The trip is already worth it by siting on the porch watching the sunset. Awesome!"
"En route to home after 6 weeks in Madagascar, this was the perfect introduction for us to the magic of the South African landscape. The stone cottages fit perfectly with the wild nature of the surroundings. The facilities were excellent - it seemed to us that considerable effort has gone into thinking about the layout and detailing of the living, cooking and eating facilities. As for the pool - a very welcome retreat from the heat of the day and an excellent bird watching area. Being able to view wild animals on the property, as well as a significant San rock art site, all added to the experience. Our hosts were delightful and very welcoming. And yes, the deck outside our cottage, on a moonlit African night looking out over the savannah was a perfect place for a proposal!"
"A wonderful stay at Kaoxa Bush Camp, chalets are very rustic but it adds to the whole outdoor experience. Next time we will book for longer than 1 night! The view was breathtaking!"
"We had a great one-day stay. Thanks to Hazel, Duncan and staff for everything. The pool saved us for certain, from getting heat stroke!"
"Peaceful, in touch with nature and secluded. This is where you want to be if you want to get away from it all."
