Port Splendour

Port Splendour is situated in the small coastal retreat of Mc Dougalls Bay, with our back against the Richtersveld and our feet in the Atlantic. Come and enjoy the misty mornings, the crisp desert air and temperate climate with sun, sea and sand in abundance.

Formerly known as Aukwatowa in Nama, meaning 'where the water took the old man away' and later as Robbe Baai. The area of Port Nolloth was frequented for centuries by the strandlopers and later the Khoekhoen, the ancestors of the Nama people. When the white settlers arrived in the area, they mixed with the Khoekhoen and the ancient San and moulded the population we see here now.

Port Splendour is a four-bedroom self-catering home located on the beach. The house features two separate kitchens and three full bathrooms. On the first level, there is a lounge, kitchen, indoor braai facility and two additional single beds as well as the main bedroom with an en-suite bathroom. The top level comprises two rooms, two bathrooms, and also two additional beds in the kitchen area, as well as magnificent views.

Port Nolloth is a good place for birding and more than 80 species have been recorded, including many endemics. Highlights for birders are Bank cormorant, Cape cormorant, Crowned cormorant, African Black oystercatcher, Hartlaubs gull, Damara tern, three species of sunbirds and Barlow's Lark.

The area offers many activities for visitors such as a variety of water sports, diamond mine trips, 4x4 routes, cross-border Richtersveld/Ais-Ais Park and Orange River rafting are also close by.
