Cape Cottages McGregor - Hoopoe & Sunbird Cottages

The Cape Cottages are situated in the centre of the village of McGregor, a short walk from restaurants and shops. The cottages are romantic, self-catering Cape Georgian-style cottages set in beautiful gardens with mountain views - simply perfect for two.

The accommodation is tastefully decorated and beautifully furnished. Each cottage has a luxurious bedroom with a queen-size bed and an overhead fan, percale linen, fluffy towels and an extra blanket. The sandstone-tiled living areas have leather couches and cosy fireplaces. The bathrooms are gorgeous with a sandstone design.

The fully equipped Oregon kitchenettes with small fridges, built-in two-plate stainless steel hobs, kettles, toasters and microwave ovens. Tea, rooibos, coffee, milk and sugar are provided in the cottages. The vine-covered patios are private with seating and Weber braais, overlooking the lush, rose-filled gardens with views to the mountains.

McGregor is a quaint mid-19th century village in the Valley of Wine and Roses, just off Route 62 in the Western Cape on a 'road to nowhere'. McGregor is less than two hours from Cape Town and 15 minutes from Robertson along a tarred road which meanders past farms, orchards and vineyards, and is home to several local wine farms, Rhebokskraal Olive Estate, Temenos Retreat and a Donkey Sanctuary.

Wine tasting, birdwatching, walking, hiking, cycling and scenic drives are popular pastimes in McGregor - you can even learn how to build your own cob house. But if peace, tranquillity and a sense of timelessness are what you are looking for, McGregor's the place for you.

"We could not have expected anymore from the weekend away we just had. The accommodation was fantastic and everything you needed was there. Great location in McGregor and central to stroll around and explore.the area. Great hosts and finishes through out. The photos do no justice to how fantastic it is. We will be back and will tell all our friends!"

  • "Awesome place."

"We are a family of 3 and stayed in Hoopoe Cottage. What a real gem! Clean, attention to detail, all you need and more! Private entrance with a small garden to sit and enjoy the birds and quietness of the surrounds. This was our first visit to McGregor and what a beautiful little part of the Karoo it is. It almost felt like Prins Albert many years ago before it too became popular. Thanks to our hosts, Simon and Bronwyn, we had a wonderful, relaxing time. This was our "belated" wedding anniversary getaway and they made it even more special with a bottle of Bubbly, choccies, candles (at an extra cost). Highly recommended!!"
