Sunflower Cottage

Sunflower Cottage is a romantic self-catering cottage in McGregor and is one of the oldest and most loved historical houses in the village. Originally built in the 1880s, its thick adobe walls, mud floors, reed ceilings and thatched roof are perfect natural insulators against the heat and cold of the Little Karoo. It is situated within easy walking distance of all shops and restaurants in McGregor. Sunflower Cottage is a lovely base for you to explore the beautiful village of McGregor and the surrounding winelands, or to retreat and immerse yourself in the feeling of a bygone era.
The cottage has an en-suite double bedroom with a spacious mosquito net and memory foam mattress topper. 100% cotton bed linen and towels are provided. The second bedroom has two single beds and a writing desk for a quiet space to think and write. Please note, however, that there is one bathroom inside, which is en-suite to the main bedroom. The second bedroom is ideal for children or friends who do not mind sharing or using the outside bathroom. The cottage has a well-equipped kitchen, secure undercover parking, a large patio and braai facilities, a lush private garden with a hammock, and daily housekeeping on request. The garden is fully enclosed and pet-friendly on request. Wood-fired, hand-crafted pottery basins and vintage crockery add to the charm of the cottage.

"Sunflower Cottage is the perfect place to retreat to for time out from city life. It is modest but there are little touches of luxury in all the right places.I was there in winter. The recliners in the garden are perfectly positioned to catch the morning sun along with a choral performance by the birds. The wood stove makes for really cosy evenings.Duck down pillows and duvet are one of the luxuries. Alternatives can be requested."

  • "A cosy cottage, with good failities"

    18 December 2017

"The cottage was cosy, and the bedroom was large and spacious. The spacious bathroom was very well equipped. The cottage is very close to other houses and the main street in McGregor, which was not obvious from the ad on this website. I would like to see more effort in preparing the braai place for visitors, but we enjoyed the stay."

  • "Cosy cottage"

"The cottage is delightful. It is cosy, well appointed and offers the ideal place to unwind and enjoy peace and tranquillity. Out only regret is that we were unable to extend our stay."

  • "The perfect techno-detox"

"Tranquility is probably the best word to describe McGregor and its surrounds, the cottage just adds to the experience. Sunflower cottage is beautiful, very well equipped with just what you need, cosy, neat and clean. There is no microwave, but who needs a microwave if you have a proper Dover oven? 3G is non existent and signal is also limited. I'd say it is the perfect long weekend-Winter-getaway. Books, wine, snacks, music and peace of mind must be on your to do list."
