Imvubu Lodge, meaning hippo in Zulu, was inspired by famous Huberta the Hippo; who undertook the historic journey from Zululand to East London. Tucked away in the lush greenbelt zone of Richards Bay, we are adjacent to the scenic Lake Menywa and the unspoilt beaches of the Indian Ocean.
The accommodation offers luxurious one and two bedroom chalets, both self-catering and non self-catering. The single self-catering chalet can sleep two people and double chalets can accommodate up to five people. All our self-catering chalets are fully equipped with everything you need for a well-deserved break or just a good nights rest. Each chalet is secluded and is equipped with air-conditioning, DStv and braai facilities.
The lodge is located on a 20-hectare property with a wildlife sanctuary surrounding it. It is within close proximity to the Tuzi Gazi Waterfront, the international heritage site of Lake St Lucia and two world-class game reserves boasting the Big 5. Imvubu Lodge is also close to the CBD as well as the Richards Bay airport.
"Very comfortable clean with friendly staff. Close to shops and very close to nature. Awesome place to stay, my second sleep over"
"I have booked and paid for accommodation in full on 23rd October 2016 through SafariNow. I have booked for a Lakeview Chalet from 3rd to 6th January. I have never received confirmation from the establishment regarding my booking. I called them on 21st December and was informed that everything was fine I just needed to bring the proof of payment with me. I was shocked when I arrived at the establishment on 3rd January with my husband and our two kids to be informed that the establishment did not receive payment from SafariNow and as a result the booking was not confirmed. I was told that they have sent numerous emails to me to confirm payment although I did not get those emails. The only email I received was when I was standing at reception asking that they forward the emails that were apparently sent to me. We were given a different room because the establishment informed us that they were not paid despite me showing them the confirmation from SafariNow that the booking was confirmed and that payment was made in full. I had to sleep in the Honey Moon Suite that had one double bed and two dirty mattresses that were referred to as "sleeper couches". On the morning of the second day we enquired about our accommodation and if the payment issue with SafariNow was sorted. We were told that they managed to receive payment the previous night from SafariNow and that they tried to "call" in the room the previous evening to tell us to say that the Lakeside Chalet was now available and ready for us to move in. We were not in the room when they called and one would expect they will call the cellphone number as well. When we ask to go and view the chalet, we were told they were still cleaning it. It was just strange that it was ready the previous night but in the morning they needed to clean first. When we eventually saw the room, we were happy with it. However since we were not sure of the accommodation as we were being moved from one room to another, we postponed some of the activities that we wanted to do. We then requested to book for an additional day (Friday 6th January). We were informed that the Lakeview Chalet is not available but there is another family chalet available, then we confirmed that we will move to the other chalet. Because of our first experience, we decided to call the reception to confirm our booking on Thursday afternoon. The receptionist asked us who did we book with as there are no available rooms. As we were packing our stuff in the evening to move out in the morning, we received a call from reception to indicate that there is a room available. I was very angry at this treatment that I told them we don't need the room anymore. When we checked out in the morning, the other receptionist asked us why are we checking out as there is an additional day booked for us. When we told her that we were first told that there was no booking, she told us that she was the one who made the booking, the other receptionist who was working in the evening did not check in the system. I was very disappointed that the place is very nice but had to be ruined by bad customer service. When we were informing the receptionist how disappointed we were, there was a gentleman from Limpopo who was listening and immediately related his ordeal that he paid for 3 chalets at the establishment and on arrival he was told only one chalet was booked. He also indicated that he paid before arriving and the establishment claimed they did not receive the payment. I then called SafariNow to enquire about payment when I left the establishment. I was surprised because I have been booking my holidays with them and never experienced something like this. They have confirmed to me that Imvubu Lodge was paid on 1st November and the exact time when payment went through was 09:10. This is really appalling !"
"We splashed out on the sea view suite for a stop over on our honeymoon. The room was stunning but unfortunately the Jacuzzi wouldn't warm up. we reported it to the staff but if the maintenance man came it was after our departure. The private beach was a short walk from the resort and very clean. We had a breakfast at the restaurant, it was fine but the room probably needs a bit of TLC to modernise. Friendly staff at the check-in."
