African Game Lodge

A happy marriage between Africa and the charming Little Karoo awaits your arrival at our pristine, secluded and off-the-grid lodge.
Located just 2.5 hours from Cape Town, on your journey to the north you will end up on the famous Route 62 that will introduce you to a diverse feast of breath-taking mountain scenery, wine farms, farmstalls, restaurants, orchards and finally, the majestic (and award winning) town of Montagu.
Following a 30-kilometre dirt road (approximately a 45-minute drive) towards Touwsriver, you will arrive at African Game Lodge. Worth the journey!
Here, on the 4500 hectares privately owned game reserve, you will be able to immerse yourself in your own thoughts, nature, peace and quiet while sitting on your stoep, having a sundowner and braai, reading a book, or just doing nothing at all.
What makes us unique are the various historically rich remains of inhabitants and archaeological events long before our time. Walking through the landscape and exploring the variety of Karoo plants is any Botanists dream.

  • "The wide open spaces and beautiful surroundings."

    10 January 2021

"The best of both worlds - clear, starry skies, long walks in the Karoo landscape with the birds, plants, insects & animals for company. And then the comfortable bed, crisp linen & fluffy towels, swimming pool & DSTV (when you need to watch the cricket)!"

  • "Lovely scenery."

    23 September 2019

"It is such a lovely place to stay. Its just unfortunate that the facilities are very primitive for the price you pay. I dont mind it but things such as poor lighting (not even enough to be able to read) or a fridge thats not cold or a properly functioning shower are some basics one would expect for the price you pay. We really enjoyed the scenery and the game drive was definitely worth it. The staff were very friendly, competent and professional."

  • "A M A Z I N G!!"

    24 July 2017

"We where welcome friendly and show to our house by Monzi, who is very friendly and helpful and share a lot of interesting facts. You just want to sit outside it is so peaceful and quite. Our breakfast was a feast. Our highlight was the feeding of the cheetah. There are so many hiking trails. You cannot stay for just one night. We will definitely go back again."

  • "Fantastic hospitality"

    08 April 2017

"Last month we spent two nights in a self catering chalet which was fantastic, it was clean, spacious and perfect for our needs. The meals in the evening were delicious and Monwa, who was in charge at the time, was efficient, helpful and very knowledgeable about the animals he showed us. Would definitely return to stay here again"

  • "Great Safari"

"It was a great experience and the staff was very friendly and kind.<div>The lodges are not so nice. A bit old, cold and particularly with no water. It would be necessary to make a little renovation.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /><div><br /></div></div>"

  • "AFRICAN GAME FARM"

    29 June 2015

"We had a fantastic time at AG Farm. Xanet and Morne were really friendly and went out of their way to make our stay very special. The food was delicious too! We will certainly recommend this very special place to others."

  • "Peace and quiet with a stunning view"

    08 December 2014

"We really enjoyed our weekend getaway. This is a special place with a certain tranquility as one is totally off the grid - no cell phone reception or Eskom but solar power and fast satellite wifi in the reception area. The breathtaking scenery added to our enjoyment, not to mention the cheetah feeding and game drive."

  • "Escape to the bush"

"We can't recommend African Game lodge enough! The farm is absolutely stunning, a real escape from the city. Very delicious meals, friendly staff and wonderful hospitality. The accommodation was cozy and comfortable. The game viewing was a really special experience for us and was enhanced by the expert knowledge of our guides. Sitting and watching the cheetahs is an encounter we will never forget."

  • "Wonderful stay"

    01 October 2012

"Our family from the UK were hear and we spent 2 nights at the Lodge. It really is the most relaxing place to stay. The peace and quiet is just what one needs. Mandy and Len, the owners, are fantastic. They make one feel so at home and are just wonderful the way they are with the animals. We can really recommend this place for a restful holiday. This was our second stay and we will definitely be going back again. Thank you."

  • "Sad to leave"

    09 January 2009

"We had a wonderful 3 day stay at the lodge with our 2 teenage boys. It was very relaxing and peaceful, though with plenty to do, such as cycling, fishing, target shooting and horse-riding. We stayed in a self catered chalet which was very comfortable and clean and well-equipped. We also had the opportunity to get 'up close and personal' with the cheetahs. The staff very extremely helpful and friendly and made sure we had all we needed. We all came away feeling totally chilled out and rather sad to leave. We would definitely return!"

  • "Enjoyable stay"

    27 September 2008

"Overall we had a very enjoyable stay. The quality of accommodation exceeded our initial expectations. Staff was friendly and helpful. We are however disappointed that an establishment that 'sells' the game farm experience, had relatively few bigger game animals (quantity as well as number of species)."

  • "Absolutely wonderful!!!!!"

    05 May 2008

"Natalie and Michael are the friendliest and most wonderful hosts and of course Cara and Chi Chi!! The beauty of the place is awesome and the staff are all very sweet. The chalets are so stunningly and tastefully decorated and you have everything that you need. Chris and I will most certainly be back, sooner rather than later. The most beautiful place to go for a break, can't think of anywhere else that equals it. Thank you very much - we loved it!!!!!"

  • "Not to be missed!"

    18 April 2007

"We had a superb time here.Natalie and Michael were brilliant hosts and visiting this place is a must for anyone who wants great hospitality - with a truly individual touch - excellent accommodation in chalets furnished to a very high standard and the most amazing tranquil surroundings.Natalie took us on a great safari drive pointing out lots of wildlife and patiently answering our endless questions! In the evening we enjoyed a much recommended wine tasting with Michael and then enjoyed a truly delicious meal with our hosts. The following morning we visited the cheetahs which was indescribable and then my husband and 8yr old son went out on quadbikes.Anyone who passes by on the opportunity of visiting this place must be mad! Our only disappointment was the fact we could only stay for a day. "

  • "Fabulous weekend"

    25 February 2007

"My husband and I had a fantastic time at African Game Lodge. Our chalet was gorgeously decorated and very cosy. The weather was awful so we made full use of our fire place! All in all we had a fab weekend and will definitely visit again. Michael & Natalie made us feel very welcome and were very gracious hosts. "

  • "Overnight Stay at African Game Lodge"

    11 January 2007

"We were warmly greeted and shown to a quality chalet with all possible appliances readily available. The two experiences which will stay with us are patting the cheetahs and the safari game drive. During the drive we were fortunate enough to see Gemsbok, Eland, Oryx, Daika, Black Cape Buffalo and several birds of prey. The Safari game Lodge is a very peaceful stopover for one or two days and can be recommended to all who travel along the inner "Garden Route" ( Montagu, Oudtshorn )."
