Montagu Springs

Montagu Springs is an affordable self-catering resort located just two hours away from Cape Town, in the heart of the famous Route 62. This scenic alternative to the N2 highway is also the longest wine route in the Western Cape, producing outstanding wines from the harmoniously balanced terrain and mild climate. Montagu, home of the famous Muscadel, is close to both the Robertson Wine Valley and Breede River Valley and is long known for its hot springs and, more recently, for eco, wellness and adventure sports.

Each chalet features a private barbecue area, with larger barbecue drums on wheels available on request for larger numbers. The fully furnished self-catering chalets all have fully equipped kitchens, private barbecue facilities, and heating and cooling air-conditioning throughout. The open-plan living and dining areas are comfortably furnished and spotlessly clean. The chalets vary in price, starting from the great value Small Plettenbergs to the luxuriously private Villas.

Pedal cars, imported from Italy, are great fun for the entire family and are available for hire, along with a variety of bicycles and mountain bikes. Three tennis courts can be enjoyed during the day and in the evening with floodlights, and guests also have access to various hot, cold and kiddies pools. Golden Terrace guests have exclusive use of a private pool and Villa guests have exclusive use of the Villa pool located on the Villa Terrace set against the mountainside. Add the various award-winning hot and cold pools and daily bird-feeding, and Montagu Springs is the perfect resort destination for the entire family.

  • "Expect only the bare minimum"

"Besides the hot water pool, this really takes self-catering to another level. Not even dishwashing liquid in the accommodation nor dry cloths...sadly...you really have to cart your whole house to make it comfortable. The place is run down...some of the plugs needs replacement...we had a scary night when one of the sockets defaulted and we were left in the dark...upon calling security, he manually switched on the power and we were told that everything is self catering and they do not provide any of the items...this establishment needs a major overhaul as it can still become one of the better family destinations. Not sure whether Avalon Springs is any different or provides a much more positive experience to its patrons."

  • "Filthy run down unit number 13 small plettenberg"

    20 January 2017

"Initially booked into unit 13 small plettenberg.<br/>It's was dirty and smelly. The unit was run down with damaged cupboards, the air con was not functioning properly hence adding to the frustrations . Notified management and moved to large Plettenberg unit 30. Much better but had it's own problems like ineffective air con, too many gaps in units for cold air to escape. Microwave but no utensils to use grill/convection facilities and no instructions on how to use. Otherwise enjoyed ourselves great pools and gardens, very tranquil and peaceful area. Very helpful staff thank you"

  • "Not Impressed"

    29 September 2013

"I was very disappointed with the whole setup at Montagu Springs. The Large Plettenbergs that we stayed in was so cold and cramped. There are no telephones in the chalets, even though the guest book says that you can contact reception if you require anything or assistance. There are no towels supplied to the chalets either. The shower area is so small that you hit your hand each time on the ceiling while utilizing it, and the strong smell of gas fumes in the bathroom is so strong it makes it unpleasant to use the bathing facilities. Yet you do not have any other option but to use it, and each time you do you find water seeping out of the bathroom towards the back door. We had to pay each time we wanted to use the hot water pool, which I think is a rip off. There is no internet reception unless you purchase airtime from the establishment to utilize their WI-FI availability. We are a family of four and stayed for four nights at a price of R1000.00 per night. This works out to a pretty penny at the end of the day. When you compare other establishments for the price that we paid you get better value for money and your stay is enjoyable. I was not impressed at all and would not recommend it to anyone."
