Thakadu Self-Catering Accommodation invites you to come and taste the bushveld in an unforgettable experience of its natural wonders. Located just 14 km out of Naboomspruit, the lodge was established in 1995 by developing 1,075 hectares of indigenous bushveld in an enclosed nature conservation area.
We are situated in the heart of a biosphere reserve located in the magical Waterberg Mountains, bushveld and savannah region of the Limpopo Province. This is not only a premier wildlife area but also a sanctuary for rare and endangered animals such as the beautiful rhino. It is a truly rich and remarkable ecosystem that is free of malaria.
The abundance of the game provides guests with exciting choices. Plains game such as eland, impala, waterbuck, zebra, blesbuck, Blue wildebeest, bushbuck, warthog, bush pig, Red hartebeest, giraffe and even some rare species such as the hippo, sable, nyala, and tsessebe can be viewed. For the bird-lovers, there are over 270 spectacular bird species.
Superb accommodation is offered in quality chalets that are well-equipped and located in a tranquil bushveld atmosphere. The rock chalets are built in the indigenous bush and provide quests with privacy, whilst being within 200 m of the main lapa. Each chalet contains a kitchenette, lounge, and private braai area, and all bedrooms are equipped with fans.
African cuisine is served in the main lapa next to the swimming pool with its view of the African bush, where quests may experience the sounds of the African nightlife. Local specialities include venison from the farm as well as homemade preserves. Mouth-watering traditional dishes and local drinks will satisfy each and every guests' taste.
Guests staying at Thakadu Game lodge are able to enjoy a variety of activities, including game drives, hiking and birding or simply relaxing and unwinding next to the swimming pool. Guests are also welcome to bring along their bicycles to take a ride through the bush.
Rest assured that Thakadu Self-Catering Accommodation will make sure that you receive the best African safari, services and hospitality throughout your stay.
"What a pleasant surprise to camp next to a waterhole, where the game are not shy to come and drink while you're there. Clean ablutions, real bush experience, nice hospitality - really had a nice stay!"
"We celebrated an 80th birthday with elderly family staying on the premises. Mostly all could get around easily as the walking surfaces between the accommodation is surprisingly even. The evening function was well planned and the food lovely. A good time was had by all without venue or accommodation related issues."
"If you love in the bush camping but mommy wants own ablusions. This is the place. No fancy pools and bars but real resting place. Only 4 campsites ensure that you are not frustrated with campsite noise.Great view. Good service.Loved the wartogs snorting past our tent at 4 am. Giraffe sightings every day a pleasure. No 5 star rating but 5 star experience..."
"Poir quality accommodation"
"Nice private place to stay and relax."
"For the price and for the purpose our stay at Thakadu was enjoyable enough. I am not so sure that we would have been equally satisfied if we intended to stay longer and really take a break from the city. I enjoyed the peace and quiet, and the rustic atmosphere, but a few amenities would have gone a long way. Overall a positive enough experience."
"Very peaceful. Lovely game."
"Very pleasant. Great get-away for the family! We had a ball. Juanita was fantastic."
"What a wonderful get away from everything. It was so quiet and peaceful. Only complaint was the bedding. Had to go to Mookgopong on Saturday to purchase pillows as the pillows supplied were impossible to sleep on."
