8 Kerk Straat

8 Kerk Straat is a beautiful, historic building situated on the old church square in Murraysburg, a tranquil town in the Karoo. The peaceful setting, open spaces and effortless way of life are sure to entice any visitor.

We offer two en-suite rooms that are spacious and comfortable with their own private entrances. Apart from lunch and dinners, packed picnics can also be arranged for those exploring the beautiful countryside.

Murraysburg is a beautiful little town nestled against the largely undiscovered Sneeuberg Mountain. There are rustic old homesteads with immaculate gardens, many of which still sport a quince hedge.

A stay in Murraysburg is all about the great outdoors; visitors can hike, stay in a cave, or escape to neighboring farms. Snow is not unheard of during winter, while the summers can get really hot and the temperature is seldom below 30 degrees.

"My friend Merryl Mufford sent in her review of her stay at 8 Kerk Street, Murraysburg.<br/>My room was not too bad, however, there were crickets in the room which started chirping at 9pm through to 6am the following day. With the result, I was unable to sleep for the noise. Bed was comfortable. No curtain for the one and only window!! 5litre bottle of water which was 3/4 full and did not smell fresh at all. Sewerage smell in kitchen area and toilet. Rusks, which looked nice but in a rusted consol bottle, therefore put off eating them. Breakfast was good though. Stay was therefore definitely over priced for what we received. Would not recommend!"

"The owners are trying to create a good space, unfortunately it still requires a lot more to be done when one considers that there is nothing to do in town! I stayed in this room (pic) the bed was lumpy, I was glad to get up early to a good breakfast there was an opened 5 lt water bottle which was old, the bathroom smelt of sewerage/drains, no air conditioner & it was hot. The crockery was dusty...needed to be washed before eating, the tea towel looked dirty & had holes. We cut our stay from 2 nights! Thanks"

  • "Wonderful stay"

"What a lovely place to overnight. We had a wonderful stay, everything we needed was on hand. This is a little oasis in the karroo and worth going to if you love an alternative route to the busy N1. Erika preared a 5 star breakfast and made us feel so welcome. Thank you!"

"We stayed in 8 Kerkstraat for one night on Saturday 14 June 2014 and what a pleasure it turned out to be. Erika Grebe met us personally, ensured we are settled in properly and attended to our every, typically Gautenger, needs. The food at both dinner and breakfast was of outstanding quality and the preparation and presentation is of a standard that exceeds any expectation whatsoever. We made an offer on a semi developed stand in Murraysburg while we were there and we will definitely make use of 8 Kerkstraat during the house building phase.Exceptional, outstanding and uncompromising service is what a person visiting 8 Kerkstraat can expect."

  • "Good stay, great town"

    22 April 2014

"We have enjoyed our stay. Erica is such a great chef and understood the eating habits of kids! The accommodation was ok, the stories about the town and the interest of new influx to upgrade the town was so good to hear. That is why we travel the back roads, to see, hear and experience country life. It makes my heart warm to hear how the people of the town are standing together to bring it back to its former glory. All the best!"

  • "Karoo Hospitality at its best"

    11 July 2013

"We stayed with Erika en route one cold evening in June and had a wonderful evening. What a pleasure to enjoy a home cooked meal (Erika is a Chef by the way!) and being welcomed with open arms into their house. We had a beautiful family room and extra care was taken to make sure we slept warm! We are going back, that is for sure."
