The Sunbird Lodge and Fynbos Reserve

The Sunbird Lodge and Fynbos Reserve is set in a CapeNature recognised Fynbos Reserve just above the village of Napier, which is about 190 km from Cape Town and about 60 km from the sea at Cape Agulhas and Arniston. The owner of the reserve, Stephen Smuts, is a qualified field guide who is delighted to introduce guests to this internationally recognized vegetation type, the richest species-wise in the world. The reserve is also part of the Napier Mountain Conservancy.Accommodation is offered in two self-catering cottages, namely Erica Cottage and Restio Cottage. Eric Cottage can accommodate two guests and contains a double bed and a fireplace and is fully equipped for self-catering. Restio Cottage is ideal for families and can sleep up to four guests in a double bed and a bunk bed in an adjoining room. There is also a fireplace in the bedroom. Both cottages enjoy great views across fynbos to distant mountains and have braai facilities.

  • "Last blisful day of the long weekend"

"Sunbird lodge is 2.4km just outside or up the road from Napier. It immediately feels like you are away from everything, Erica cottage is a thatched rondavel with no view of the valley but the room with the fireplace, fully fitted small kitchen makes up for it and allows you to take you coffee and sit in the rustic lapa to enjoy the sun coming up."
