Orange River Tented Camp

Orange River Tented Camp is a self-catering camp ideally situated just 1 km below the Gariep Dam, and 10 km from the N1 highway. The camp is ideal for guests travelling to or from Cape Town, Johannesburg or Port Elizabeth.

Accommodation is offered in privately arranged canvas tents, built on wooden decks. Each tent has an en-suite bathroom with a hot shower, and is equipped with modern necessities including electricity, electric blankets for cooler nights, a fridge, kettle, and cutlery and crockery.

As the Orange River Tented Camp is a self-catering camp, we have a Lapa Spaza where you can purchase some braai packs, bread and some ingredients which are perfect for preparing those wonderful camping meals. It is within close proximity to the communal boma area which boasts a fire pit for your "talking" fire. Our Lapa Spaza also stocks the necessities in the event of those forgotton items left at home. We also have a kitchen at our lapa should you wish to make use of it for your convenience.

Breakfast is available, by prior arrangement only, and can be served at the lapa in the morning. You are welcome to contact us for any special requests or requirements, and we will try our best to accommodate you. The Orange Valley Guest Farm is 2 km from the Tented Camp and they serve meals in their dining area but bookings are essential prior to arrival. A menu can be supplied upon request.

Orange River Tented Camp offers a variety of activities for the discerning nature lover such as fly fishing, horse riding, bird watching, and hiking. We offer river-rafting trips along the Orange River, in summer only, that is well suited to families and adventurers. There is no 'white' water the good Class 1 to 3 rapids offer a great river experience nonetheless. Also on offer are horse-riding trails through the Karoo countryside and Orange River Valley. Novice riders welcome and pony rides for children are also available. Places of interest in our area include Oviston and Gariep Nature Reserves, the Gariep Dam wall and hydro-electric station tours, Norval's Pont concentration camp site and memorial.
