Wolwefontein Lodge

Wolwefontein Lodge is a spacious five-bedroom guest house situated on a working farm just 30 km outside Colesberg on the N9. Kudu Cottage is a free standing unit a distance away from the guest house, situated close to the family farm house.

The lodge provides a quiet, scenic stopover for those travelling towards Port Elizabeth and the Garden Route, and a drive to the farm is almost like envisioning an oasis - a great contrast to the stark beauty of the Karoo, as lovely green lands and a forest of poplar trees lay just below the guest house. Relax in the solidarity of the vast serene space at the guest house and enjoy the peace of the abundant wilderness and animal life.

At Wolwefontein, there is always heaps of fun activities for children to do. Most of the year there are little orphan lambs to feed, sometimes there may even be a baby buck. From August, the mares will have their foals running and playing nearby and if you are really lucky, you may even get to see a mare foaling. Aside from the animals on the farm, play is only limited to the imagination, and mom and dad can relax in peace.

Unwind in one of the five spacious bedrooms, each with its own en-suite or private bathroom to wash away the tension of the day. All rooms promise comfortable beds with crisp sheets for a restful night. Two bedrooms can accommodate families of four each, one bedroom sleeps two guests, a cosy bedroom with a fireplace sleeps three guests and the newly added Nguni room also with fireplace sleeps two guests. Each bedroom also has its own TV with guest house DStv bouquet, its own entrance and braai area. There is a self-catering cupboard in each room with microwave, bar-fridge, tea and coffee facilties as well as cutlery and crockery. Wolwefontein is Pet-friendly, but only for SMALL BREEDS. Three of the rooms, Nguni, Lion and Eagle have fenced enclosures for SMALL pets to trot around off the leash. The Elephant and Guinea Fowl can accomodate SMALL pets, however they must be kept under control and nearby as there are no enclosures at the front of the guest house. Kudu Cottage is NOT PET FRIENDLY.

Enjoy the barbecue facilities under the star-filled sky or take a cool dip in the swimming pool at the main house. Undercover parking is provided, and two cots are available for guests with babies or toddlers, free of charge.

Wolwefontein Lodge is ideally situated for day trips of the surrounding areas, such as Graaff-Reinet, a lovely little town to explore with much history just 160 km away. Colesberg museum offers much information about the Boer War as well as interesting walks through the town and surrounding area with regards to the Boer War skirmishes and sites. The Gariep Dam is 70 km away and one can organize day trips on a house boat or just have a nice day relaxing by the waterside. White water rafting and horse riding can also be done near the dam.

  • "Great place and a beautiful farm"

    01 January 2020

"We only stayed for 1night and left early the following morning again. The farm is really beautiful. The sunset was spectacular and we loved the dogs. One of them stayed with us for the night. The place was really nice and clean. Judy was so friendly. We felt right at home. Would definitely go again for a bit longer."

  • "Good"

    18 March 2015

"We only spent one night in Kudu cottage, but would definitely go there again. It is easily accessible from the N9, but is in a peaceful and quiet setting with a garden with peacocks, blue cranes and a baby springbok, not to mention the friendly dogs. The bedroom was large, with a nice shower room and there was a comfortable living room. A fridge and microwave were provided as well. We self-catered, and found everything there for our needs, including fresh milk. However, without a stove it might be difficult to cater for any length of time."

  • "Poorest accommodation ever!"

    20 April 2013

"The lodge is nothing like what was described on the web page. The photos must be from another place. The beds were very uncomfortable. The place looks and is very tacky. Breakfast the next morning was to say the least the worst that I have ever experienced with the eggs totally overcooked...burned! Imagine fruit juice served in two tins."

  • "Good rest"

"Lovely stop over if you are on your way to or from PE or CT - peaceful and the hostess goes out of her way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Good evening meal and super breakfast - furnishings excellent - so enjoyed the bird life and all the animals."
