Rutland Lodge

Tucked away on a quiet tree-lined street in the stylish Cape Town suburb of Oranjezicht , lies the luxurious 5 Star Rutland Lodge. This magnificent Herbert Baker house, with its Cape Dutch architecture, is framed against Table Mountain.

The original house was built some time around the turn of the century and the Higginson Family have restored it into an exclusive Boutique Guest House. The renovations have retained the character of the era house while ensuring that today's discerning guests luxuriate in the modern comforts with total privacy and personal service.

Rutland Lodge is located close to the major roads that lead to all the popular destinations, including Cape Town CBD, Table Mountain, the world-renowned V&A Waterfront, Clifton and Camps Bay beaches, as well as the free-way leading to Cape Town International Airport and the Winelands.

The tastefully appointed guest suites are excellent havens of reserved relaxation, giving guests a place to retire after a long day of work, sightseeing or travel. Each of the exquisitely decorated suites features a walk-on balcony or leads onto a private garden and includes a tastefully finished en-suite bathroom, luxurious bathrobes, pure cotton sheets, goose down duvets, and king-size or twin beds. All the suites are air-conditioned and offer minibars, DVD players, DStv, telephones, Internet access, safes and hairdryers. All the luxuries one expects from a contemporary Boutique Guest House.

In summer, cool down in the swimming pool or take tea in the garden. Fresh flowers and old traditions, cool marble and warm smiles complete an extraordinary guest experience.

  • "Really lovely guesthouse!"

"We had a most pleasant stay in December 2012 and the lodge is very well located. Centrally placed for easy access to all areas of Cape Town, but in a lovely, quiet neighbourhood. The lodge has a lovely ambience and our rooms were most comfortable. The friendly proprietor,Jean-Jo was welcoming and helpful and the staff unobtrusive, but efficient."

"Excellent setting in a safe neighborhood, with stunning views of downtown Cape Town and Table Mountain. Our host Benoit was very friendly and made us feel at home here. Excellent room, with plenty of space and one of the most comfortable beds Ive ever slept in. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here."

  • "Fantastic"

"From the minute we arrived, we were made very welcome. John Jo could not do enough to make out stay memorable. The food and the location were of a high standard. Although our room could have been a little more comfortable (i.e. complimentary water on arrival or flowers in room or fruit etc) also I felt the room and bathroom could do with a little female touch! A little bit more attention to detail in the guest rooms would be nice. The lounge and dining areas were superb. On the whole we would highly recommend Rutland Lodge to our friends and colleagues back in the UK. John Jo - made the ambience and the location fantastic. best wishes Sue and Roger Roberts"

"Superbly located in the beautiful and very safe suburb of Oranjezicht (no I cant say it either!) at the foot of Table Mountain enjoying extensive views of both mountain and city. First floor sundeck with amazing views ofTable Mountain behind a flame tree (see photo). Nice shady pool area with comfortable loungers. The location of the lodge makes it an easy drive/taxi to all parts of town, Camps Bay and the airport. Our large contemporary room (room 5) was beautifully and stylishly appointed throughout with large comfortable bed, private facilities, separate dressing room, air con, minibar and private balcony with extensive views. Furnishings were a well balanced mix of antique and modern design.Welcoming owners Janet and John deliver warm and personal service but are not intrusive nothing is too much trouble. We were invited to their New Years Eve party and soon felt part of the family, watching the fireworks from the deck area.Excellent restaurant recommendations and booking service taxis arranged if necessaryHigh quality breakfast served indoor or out with proper coffee all cooked and served by friendly manager, Ross.We ate at the following restaurants:- Baia (V&A)This was recommended to us by Janet for our wedding anniversary and what a great recommendation. An excellent seafood restaurant commanding beautiful views of Table Mountain.- Saigon (Gardens)Another excellent recommendation by Janet serving good quality and cheap Vietnamese food.- Balthazar (V&A)A bit touristy but a great place to have steak extensive wine list if a little over priced watch out for the annoying wine waiters trying to sell you expensive bottles of wine. Nice place to go for a glass of wine before dinner.- The Codfather (Camps Bay)Nice seafood but a little expensive for the setting.- Bukhara (City Bowl)High quality Indian food (particularly the Tandoori) in a vibrant atmosphere."
