De Poort Country Lodge

De Poort Country Lodge is located 17 km from Oudtshoorn en route to the world-famous Cango Caves which is situated in the foothills of the majestic Swartberg Mountains, with breathtaking views of green valleys and hills. The lodge is owned and managed by Paul and Elna Coetzee and offers the discerning traveller homely and comfortable self catering en-suite accommodation.

We offer eight fully equipped self catering rooms, off-street parking near the rooms, a salt water swimming pool, braai facilities, WiFi and beautiful natural scenery and an invigorating hiking trail. Each of De Poorts rooms was named after the wild animals that can be found in the area and every room is decorated individually to enhance the atmosphere to make you feel at home.

Come and experience our Klein Karoo hospitality, fresh air, sparkling mountain water and incredible stargazing. We are ideally situated for bird watching and enjoying the unusual plants and succulents of the Little Karoo. Oudtshoorn is the gem of the Klein Karoo - an ancient rolling plain between the Outeniqua and Swartberg mountains. The town is enclosed by mountains, which means that every road into the area is a pass. This affords the traveller with breathtaking scenes of unspoiled nature and excellent opportunities for the avid cycler.

Oudtshoorn is also a tourist hotspot; en route to De Poort Country Lodge on the R328 you will have the opportunity to visit the Cango Wildlife Ranch, Cango Ostrich Farm, Rust en Vrede Waterfall, Wilgewandel and of course the world-famous Cango Caves. Take the Swartberg Mountain Pass to Prince Albert and Gamkaskloof, and do the round trip through Meiringspoort and De Rust. Drive one of the many gravel back roads with amazing mountain and nature views. In Oudtshoorn itself, visit a number of curio shops, historic ostrich palaces, the C.P. Nel Museum, C.J. Langenhoven's house and the suspension bridge spanning the Grobelaars River. There are also a number of wine farms in the area.

"We were accommodated for our overnight stay in a charming open-plan unit with a loft for our 2 children. Although small, it was impressive to see how the excellent space planningallowed all our needs to be provided for, and the unit was modern & very clean. "<p>What a lovely stay my family and me had over this weekend. Jeanette went out of her way to accommodate us, and my kids absolutely loved the breakfast! The accommodation was very clean and well organized, and we settled right in. Despite us needing an earlier breakfast on the Saturday morning as my daughter were competing early morning, the presentation of the breakfast was spot on and no shortcuts was taken. What lovely people to meet and the Smith family would like to say thank you once again for your hospitality and opening up your home to us. Can recommend this establishment to anybody travelling alone or with a family.</p>"

"My wife and I stayed over at the De Poort for two nights. The room was spacious and air conditioned(it's Oudtshoorn after all!). Very clean facilities. The personnel were friendly and helpful and made our stay a very pleasant one. I have to mention the ostrich steak we had for dinner. Absolutely superb! Definately worth having if you are in Oudtshoorn and want to take the short drive out. You won't find it as good as this anywhere else... We will definately visit again and bring the kids."
