Experience the enchanting allure of these seaside cottages, steeped in Old World charm and carefully preserved heritage. Immerse yourself in their stylishly decorated interiors as you indulge in a choice of self-catering or bed and breakfast arrangements.
Transporting you back in time, Bedrock Lodge's rich history dates back to the early 1880s, with whispers of its existence even before that, as evident by unearthed plans from the 1850s. It is rumored that the main house was assembled from a remarkable kit imported from Denmark, boasting exquisite wooden wall panels. Meanwhile, the awe-inspiring wooden floors have been sourced from the magnificent Knysna forests.
Step into the past and discover the fascinating stories of bygone eras. The residence once served as the coveted dwelling place for the manager of the prestigious Cape Copper Company, with the south wing allocated to their esteemed presence. Furthermore, the main house welcomed the esteemed harbour master to its grand quarters in the north. A transformative moment arrived when the Jowell family and Transport Company seized the opportunity to acquire this historic gem in 1950. This remarkable company played a pivotal role in connecting the remote realms of Namaqualand to the wider country, leaving an indelible mark on the region's history.
"Really enjoyed my stay. Lovely accommodation. People where really great."
"We had a very pleasant stay at your establishment and will recommend it to anyone going to Port Nolloth. Thank you very much."
"The house is very neat, but can I suggest that they replace the cutlery? Some of the knifes and forks are bent and there were not enough plates and glassware for the number of guests the house can accommodate. On our last day, we also struggled with water. It seems as if the tank was filled with just enough water to cater for 2 days only."
"Absolutely charming."
"Wonderful welcome by staff. Neat, clean and tidy home. On the beach front walked to museum and local restaurant. Definitely recommend it."
"We were lucky to be given a suite for the night, right on the beach where we watched the dolphins play in the waves from the lounge window. Well appointed and spotlessly clean. The breakfast was great and the staff very friendly. Our only problem was we did not go prepared to self-cater and all the restaurants closed at 5pm."
"Very relaxing with the friendliest people. Everything you need for a quiet holiday."
"We stayed here as a family and would absolutely stay here again.Excellent and friendly service.Great place to relax for a few days, wish we could have stayed longer. We would highly recommend it. Thanks for a wonderful stay."
"What a place! Thank you Eileen and Maggie for your friendliness, Marie and Freddie for the professional manner we were treated. This was the first, but definitely not the last visit. Thank you."
"Great location, excellent hospitality, clean and comfortable accommodation!"
"We had a wonderful time - beautiful being right across the road from the beach and hearing the waves at night. Pity about power outtage thanks to Eskom, but we had our gas stove and at least we had electricity every evening. Clean, wonderful linen and spacious. Couldn't have asked for anything more. Apologies for the delay. My laptop was stolen."
"Very good service and friendly people. We really enjoyed our stay."
"We stayed at Bedrock in August 2012, it was a very nice stay. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The unit was neat and well equipped. We had a great time!"
"Thoroughly enjoyed our one night at Bedrock on the way to the Richtersveld. The cottage was clean and comfortable. Staff were helpful. The only problem was the shower in the evening - just a trickle, hardly enough to jump around in. But in the morning there was a good flow of water."
"The in-house suite at Bedrick Lodge was quaint and cosy with old world charm. We enjoyed the stay and will stay longer next time."
"The Bedrock Lodge Grace Room is fantastic and the ladies are an absolute charm and asset to the establishment. We would not stay anywhere else in Port Nolloth or McDougals."
"We received a friendly welcome on our arrival. Our unit was spacious and comfortable and reminiscent of times gone by. We had a lovely sea view from our room and lounge area and we were treated with a most beautiful sunset. A good breakfast was served."
"Huisies pragtig gerestoureer en goed ingerig. Ons het baie lekker gebly. Dankie dat ons ons voertuie binne kon parkeer. Dames by ontvangs was baie behulpsaam en effektief."
"We had a pleasant stay. Thanks!"
"Spent only one night, but could easily get stuck at Bedrock till I am a Flintstone. Quaint, warm, friendly and with a fairy garden (Ou-ou skuur) on our doorstep. Excellent and friendly service by all. Wish to return ASAP. Linda"
"Ons het baie lekker gebly. Die personeel is baie vriendelik en behulpsaam. Dit is die tweede maal wat ons hier bly en sal nerens anders gaan bly nie. Ek sal Bedrock altyd aanbeveel. We had a very nice stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful. This is the second time we've stayed here and we won't stay anywhere els. I will definitely recommend Bedrock."

"Very spacious, clean cottage. Was a pleasant stay. To be recommended."
"Warm welcome and very enjoyable stay. The braai/garden is very small and the sea view in the distance."
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bedrock Lodge, and found it to be very clean and comfortable and well run. We were also fascinated to learn how old the house is, being built in 1850-1890. We also enjoyed visiting the small museum and learning interesting facts about the town."
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Bedrock Lodge and found it to be clean, comfortable and well run. It was fascinating to visit the small museum and discover that we were staying in a house that was built around 1850-1890. Loved learning about the history of the little town and walking along the walkway at the water's edge. Would love to return one day."
"We were travelling to Namibia and received very useful information at Bedrock Lodge."
"It was a home away from home. We enjoyed our stay at beautiful Bedrock Lodge with a lovely, very 'British' room and a great view over the ocean. Our stay started with a warm welcome at reception and ended with a great breakfast and the wish to come back. Even the sun takes a longer time to come out, but the dust made us think Jack Sparrow may come through. Thanks a lot for the hospitality."
"Neat, cosy, clean bedding, hot water and a great stay. Staff is friendly and helpful. Just a stone's throw from the beach."
"What a stunning cottage! We were given a comfortable little cottage with stunning views of the ocean from the lounge area. We spent a wonderfully relaxing afternoon staring out over the sea and enjoying the warmth and home-like feel of the cottage. I left my jacket and it was promptly sent back to me. Thank you very much Bedrock Lodge for fantastic and friendly service and a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere!"
"We enjoyed our stay. Everything was okay."
"The Beach Cottage was full of character and spacious enough for three couples (if you can live with the single bathroom which was not a problem for us). Fred made us feel very welcome and the food at his recommended restaurant was excellent. An ideal stopover on the way to the Richtersveld."
"Thank you for beautiful linen and impeccably clean accommodation with amazing sea views."
"From the moment we arrived until we left, the experience was amazing. The view from our room was breathtaking, the décor and antiques in every corner of Bedrock Lodge was special, homely and gorgeous. I urge anyone to visit Bedrock Lodge. It is an experience I will never forget. Breakfasts was delicious and all the staff was friendly and lovely. We were so sad to leave. See you again soon!"
"We were so surprised with the town of Port Nolloth, as well as the lodgings. The accommodation was spotless and the lovely Old World charm took us back in time. We will tell all our friends about this little gem."
