Grootwaterval is a lovely sheep farm situated in Central Karoo, 45 km from the charming village of Prince Albert, at the foot of the Swartberg Pass in South Africa. We offer a variety of accommodation options.
Experience the vastness and calm of the Karoo while enjoying the wide view over the veld, and be amazed at the wonders of a clear nights sky, listening to the birds and looking out for steenbuck and turtles.
Our guests are welcome to participate in our farm activities including tractor driving and working with the sheep and goats. We farm merino sheep which provide the famous fine-grade wool, shearing them every ten months. Other activities include hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, game viewing and stargazing.
You can stroll through the quiet streets of Prince Albert and look at the well-preserved houses dating back to the 19th Century with beautiful lush gardens. The tourist office is excellent if you need any assistance.

"The worst roads I have ever driven."
29 December 2022"The road conditions should be specified. I managed them in a Corolla Cross Hybrid, but I have off-road experience. Do not expect milk, coffe, firewood, etc as part of the package. There appears to be a septic tank close to the stoep as well."

05 April 2021"The farm is peaceful and beautiful. You can roam freely and I took the most amazing photos. Keep an eye out for the small treasures: 2 pieces of rock lying next to each other after broken apart, small plants with smaller flowers. The accommodation rustic but with everything you may need including very comfy thick duvets. The sunsets are exquisite."

05 January 2015"Wonderful hosts made us very welcome. It is a real get away from it all' location. Didn't miss having electricity and loved using the paraffin lamps. Extraordinary night sky. Cottage is well equipped and spotlessly clean. Its not 5 star accommodation but it is a 5 star soul restoring experience!"
