Karoo Khaya is on a small-holding within walking distance of the centre of the wonderful town, Prince Albert.
Pete and Megan would like you to feel that this is a relaxing home away from home. Share our passion for the Karoo and our property. Feel free to wander through our huge veggie garden as well as our fruit and olive orchards.
Visit our animals in their free-range home. There are no streetlights or town noises to spoil that special Karoo tranquillity.
Karoo Khaya has four cottages each set in a peaceful garden with a rock plunge pool and waterfall. There is a boma with braai facilities; wood and braai equipment supplied.
The cottages are decorated with a touch of the old Karoo. Special care has been taken to give you home away from home comforts - quality linen, comfy beds and rustic little touches. Each room also has a file containing all the information youll need about Prince Albert and its surrounds. The cottages are serviced every day.
A full Karoo breakfast served at our home is optional at R70 per person. Jams, preserves, smoked olives and olive oil are all made on the property and are available for sale in the rooms.
There is a guest lounge with DStv and an extensive library overlooking the garden and expansive vistas of mountains and distant hills.
Wi-Fi is available.
Karoo Khaya is set on a working small-holding, so feel free to wander around and pick your veggies for supper. Kids will love the farm and are welcome to help at feeding time. Pets are welcome by arrangement.
There is plenty of secure parking.
Prince Albert is nestled at the foot of the majestic Swartberg Mountains, at the very edge of the Great Karoo.
Its a very special place where people come to find tranquillity, inspiration and the lamb, fruits, cheeses and hospitality for which the region is famous. It is also very much still a working dorp with a vibrant and diverse community.
"Great hospitality. Tranquil and relaxing"
"What a beautiful garden setting watching weaver birds and relaxing after a hot day exploring the Swartberg pass. Megan was incredibly hospitable; suggesting restaurants and the markets for us to walk to and explore. My husband and I and our Collie couldn't have felt more at home and I absolutely loved seeing the farm animals and picking fresh veg in the morning for a delicious salad! Will definitely be back to Prince Albert and to stay at Karoo K."
"Warm, unobtrusive hospitality. Loved the way we were generously invited to interact with the goats and to help ourselves to the veggies in the amazing garden. Relaxed and cosy."
"The cottage was cosy and comfortable."
"It was a wonderful experience. Coming through Swartenberg mountains (the easy way but still absolutely stunning passage for the beginners). The cottage itself had a nice rural feeling to it but with all creature' s comfort. Megan and Pete were very welcoming and extremely informative (And well informed). Recommendations for dinner and breakfast first class."
"Was wonderful and the owners was so friendly and welcome. I had a sick child and they even made an appointment for me at the doctor."
"Meghan & Peter are the perfect hosts!<br/>A week or so before our trip, they contacted us to give us some tips for our stay in Prince Albert. On our arrival, we were given such a lovely warm welcome and during our 3 day stay, nothing was too much trouble.<br/>We loved the rustic home-made dcor in the rooms and the handwritten notes giving tips about the area.<br/>Thank you for helping to make our trip such an enjoyable and relaxing one. We have already recommended you and will not hesitate to book again when we are in the area. <br/><br/>Establishments response:<br/><br/>Hi Diane<br/><br/>Thanks for the great review<br/>We love seeing our guests enjoying themselves!<br/>We would so enjoy seeing you again<br/>Happy Xmas to you all<br/><br/>"
"What a pleasant surprise. The cottage is gorgeous with all you require for an over night or more. Our host, Megan was great in organising a place for dinner and in generally giving us the lay of the land and the keys to it. We will definitely stay again when in the area. Also Megan's home jams, chutneys etc are amazing."
"Beautiful tranquil space, simple and comfortable, great for people traveling in groups. The self service fruit and veggie gardens are a special touch."
"Very tasteful interior. Exceeded our expectations. Our dogs were welcome."
"Beautiful accommodation, stunning rustic decor, lovely garden, great hospitality. Will definitely try be back!"
"We would unreservedly recommend Karoo Khaya!<div>Our hosts were very welcoming and we loved everything from the quirky decor to the wonderful vegetable garden which we were given free reign to pick from. Our hosts are well connected and advised wonderful eating locations and a must is a visit to Gay's dairy for the best milk ever!</div><div>We will definitely recommend Karoo Khaya to all our friends and we'll be back soonest.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>"
"<p>We needed a place to make a gentle return to busy life after nearly three weeks in the Richterveld and Namaqua Parks and Karroo Khaya and the gentle town of Prince Alfred proved to be perfect.</p><p>We can happily recommend it.</p>"
"We stayed here for one night and we absolutely loved it! Clean, comfortable and very well equipped self catering unit, which will be great for a stay longer than one night as well. The people were welcoming, the products that they sell are delicious (especially the apricot chutney!) and we also loved the decor and thought the invitation to use the fresh produce and feed the animals (great for kids!) is a lovely touch! We will definitely stay here again should we visit Prins Albert in future!"
"<p>Excellent,friendly service.</p><p>Impeccable accommodation.</p>"
"After a very long journey and arriving later than expected, we were warmly welcomed by Megan & Peter. Cottages were quaint with interesting furnishing, made by their son, beautiful white crisp linen and the most comfortable bed. Rusks in the kitchen with home made preserves and cordials made at Karoo Khaya. Wonderful garden to sit and relax in or wander around and explore. A short walk into town takes you to the quaintest little eateries with very friendly staff. Karoo Khaya and Prince Albert are defiantly worth a visit."
"We enjoyed every moment at Karoo Khaya! Megan welcomed us like family and immediately set out to pamper us. We needed cold storage for meat we bought on the way and she made sure we had space in their freezer. She invited us to pick the luscious ripe fruits from the trees - peaches and apricots. Megan also provided us with basket, ice, wine and cooler for the night food market in town free of charge! The accommodation is lovely and very comfortable and we felt spoilt every second of our stay there. We would gladly stay there again and heartily recommend it to everybody.<br />"
"We just spent one night there thins time, but, the mix of space, comfy bed, nice bathroom, good wifi, lovely people, spoilt of choice of restaurants within walking distance, value for money. What more can you ask for. Thank you. Ian"
"We were 6 people from Germany traveling through Western Cape and stayed 2 nights at this beautiful place in the Karoo. Megan was a lovely host and a great help whenever we needed advice. The Khaya is a super clean and shady place, well equipped, good beds with mosquito nets, spacious rooms lovely decorated. We had delicious vegetables from the garden and sat together till late at night. WiFi worked well. Real value for money and we will be back in 3 years. Thanks Megan!"
"sehr schne Unterkunft die urig eingerichtet ist. Man hat alten Dingen wieder einen Platz gegeben um mit uns zu leben und uns zu erfreuen.<div><br /></div><div><em>Very nice, quaint place to stay . It has old things given a place to live with us and delight us.</em></div>"
"The place is charming but overpriced and we left feeling ripped off. Megan, the owner only spoke to us when it was time for us to pay. We felt like we were bothering her. She tried to ignore us the next day in town. I have no idea what her problem was. Also, we had 2 bedrooms and one of them was not very clean. There are many other places in Prince Albert (very pretty little town not to be missed) where one can stay. Don't waste your time and your money on Karoo Khaya."
"Stunning accommodation and super friendly hosts! Air-conditioning would be very welcome in summer!"
"Spacious and clean with lovely decor and gardens! Real value for money and will strongly recommend to friends and family."
"My partner and I stayed at Karoo Khaya for only one evening as we were passing through Prince Albert. We completely fell in love with both Karoo Khaya and the little town! The guest house is absolutely gorgeous. It was spacious, clean and well-maintained. The kitchen was well-stocked with cutlery, crockery and utensils. The bed was comfy. The bathroom was absolutely beautiful. We enjoyed using the little enclosed garden and sitting pool, and while we were there, we befriended the farm animals and a very friendly, well-behaved cat!The owners and workers were very welcoming and friendly - they made us feel right at home. What we enjoyed most of all was looking at the beautiful reclaimed furniture while exploring the plot. We loved Prince Albert and Karoo Khaya, and we can't wait to go back there!"
"Only in Prince Albert for a night but absolutely loved it. Great facilities with interesting decor and helpful and informed staff. Will definitely be back."
"Loved the place, town and recommendations from owner. We will definitely stay there again."
"We booked at the last minute and were very pleasantly surprised. The rooms are spacious tidy and tastfily decorated. With very interesting rustic decor and clever little touches. We enjoyed our stay thoroughly and will be back again."
"We enjoyed our stay at Karoo Khaya and vow to be back as often as we can. Megan was lovely to chat to and offered great suggestions of places to eat, things to see, and people to meet in the area. The accommodation was beautiful, clean, and well decorated. The kitchen had everything you could want, and fresh milk was placed in the fridge for you. The garden offered tables to relax in the shade or the sun, and town is just a few minutes walk down a lazy, lovely street. Thank you for being wonderful hosts, we look forward to coming back!"
"Hostess Megan was great and made us feel at home. We enjoyed our stay and the chalet was sufficiently equipped. Good value for money. If I may make a suggestion, I would recommend that the mattress in the chalet that we had, be replaced."
"The stay was perfect from start to finish. The Karoo Khayas location is perfect for a stopover destination but also provides the luxury of home for those planning an extended stay to discover the treasures and ambiance of the Karoo. The Khaya is simply lovely and one of the most beautifully authentic places Ive stayed over the years. Beautifully furnished with mind boggling transformations of old and disregarded to new and treasured, the dcor is like a discovery of art through the ages, but as always, the real draw is the hospitality of the hosts and locals. We arrived really early, which is possible even more rude than being late, and were treated like royalty. Luckily the room was available and Megan made every effort to make us feel at home. A bad word cannot possible be said for our stay. I had the best food, coffee and rest in years. Prince Albert is sure to be seeing us againand soon!!"
"Truly a pleasant experience. Megan and Pete went out of their way to make our stay most enjoyable. Beautiful garden, spacious rooms. We even went back with family for another night. The WiFi connection is a bonus! Thank you once again."

"Loved this friendly, clean, well-run establishment.Lovely large well equipped room with lots of quirky detail. Was great to be able to walk amongst the animals and to pick fruit off the trees. Megan was a delight! Informative with a lovely sense of humour. Will stay nowhere else!"

"We could not believe the help we received from Megan & Peter in finding a solution to our vehicle problems & assisting us as if we were part of their family. Thanks to them our holiday to Cape Town & family commitments went off very well. The accommodation was great & there were many interesting decorations in our room."
"Although only a short stay (2 nights) a great time and nice to walk though the vegetable garden then the town. Very friendly and helpful people so we could make best use of our time."

"I took a friend from the UK to visit Prince Albert. On our arrival we were met by Megan, a charming and friendly lady. Our accommodation was spotless and comfortable, and the surroundings were just a delight. I definitely recommend Korro Kaya to anyone who likes style and comfort."
"A most welcome reception after a long day on the bike. Very enjoyable!"
"We were four people on our way from Jeffrey's Bay to Stellenbosch and decided to stopover in Prince Albert. At Karoo Khaya, we were warmly welcomed. Also, we were well informed about Prince Albert and given tips about good restaurants and more. The rooms have all you need and the surrounding area invites you to relax and forget time. So don't make the same mistake we did and make sure to stay a few days longer."
"What an awesome town and guest house! We were made to feel most welcome. It was beautifully furnished and very clean and tidy. I love the Karoo and its quaintness!"

"Wonderful stay. Good place centrally situated in Prince Albert. Fresh apricots on the trees, farm animals and dogs. Lovely."
"We spent only one night, much too short in this beautiful countryside. We really enjoyed our stay with Megan's family, the rooms were perfect for us with kids, with a garden just in front and farm animals behind the house. And we enjoyed a nice chat with our hosts, and a good bottle of wine. We had a great time !! Be sure to stay longer as there seems to have lots of stuff to do around !"

"Karoo Kaya is a fantastic place to stay. The lodging in a separate housing in the garden has a spacious bedroom, big bathroom with bath and sitting room where all the tools and ingredients are available for making tea, coffee or a snack. All clean and tastefully decorated (we got some ideas for at home). The entrance of the room leads to the law where lounging in the shade of the tree is quite pleasant.Megan and her husband are excellent hosts friendly but reserved as it should be. Breakfast is that what you hope to get and includes the delicious local produced cheese. Having diner at the cooking school or the art gallery restaurant in town is highly recommended. There are 4 dogs that are friendly and kept away if you wish. Parking is safe inside the property. In need of urgent medical help one is at the good address as the host although retired still practices. Fast internet is available if you ask."
