81 on Church Guest House

This guest house is an undiscovered gem, home away from home, luxurious comforts and Johan as a warm, witty and engaging host. The best-kept secret is the oasis of a garden that Johan has lovingly created in the back. Some of the rooms and cottages look onto this abundantly green and magnificent display of textures and colour. 81 on Church offers a choice of four comfortable, spacious bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bedroom, evaporative air cooling, and DSTV. Three have a queen-sized and a single bed, and there is a family room with a queen-sized and 2 single beds.

Like most houses of its vintage, the rooms are large having high ceilings and sash windows welcoming the light to stream in. All rooms have DSTV, a fridge-freezer for cold drinks on summer days, and everything you need to make tea or coffee. The bathrooms-en-suite have showers.

We also have two 2 sleeper luxury cottages each having an en-suite bedroom as well as their own private outside shower. The lounge area with a kitchenette overlooks the gardens outside. These units are perfect for guests looking for a bit of comfort and to simply unwind.

"We loved staying at Mai's! Her rooms are beautifully decorated! Mai has a wonderful sense of humor and was so helpful. She booked us a table at the hotel for dinner, she found out the times of the dairy - she was a great host. Her breakfast was stunning! I will definitely stay there again and again! What a treat! Thank you Mai. You are true to the Irish saying on your board - a hundred thousand welcomes! We felt so welcome!"

    23 March 2014

"The bedroom was very comfortable and nicely furnished with little extras that are often not seen at B&Bs. Good breakfast to set you up for the day, and a sparkling cool pool to lounge at after exploring Prince Albert on foot. The hostess, Mai, is a real treat."

  • "Fabulous!"

    21 February 2014

"Mai's is a home-from-home in the heart of Prince Albert. Mai knows everything & everybody and runs a fantastic lodge with the most delicious breakfasts under the vines. The pool is a must on hot Karoo days and chaise lounges are provided with cushions for reading and relaxing. Her cats are a joy and she is a caring animal lover naming each stray and having a special bond with her feral friends. Next door is the hotel with good dinners and lunches. The rooms are air conditioned, cosy, eclectic and comfortable. Not to be missed - you arrive as a guest and leave as a friend!"
