Mont dOr Swartberg Hotel

Mont d'Or Swartberg Hotel is a charming 4 - Star Victorian hotel situated in the heart the quaint Karoo village of Prince Albert. Established as a hotel in 1864, the Swartberg is now one of 19 National Monuments in the village, and is still the only hotel in Prince Albert today.

The hotel offers a number of rooms set either in the main building or in the tranquil garden. Each of the spacious rooms are comfortably furnished with an elegant Victorian feel. The hotel features a large dining area leading out onto the patio that overlooks the swimming pool, while the large second floor balcony offers a quiet retreat with beautiful views of the town.

Prince Albert is easily accessed from the N1 and is the perfect stopover if you are travelling between Cape Town and the interior of South Africa. The road to Prince Albert from the N2 is a little longer, however the magnificent sights of Meiringspoort or the Swartberg Pass are truly breathtaking, and a chance to experience either should not be missed.

"We loved our stay at this lovely hotel.<br/>We would like to mention Rebecca the smiling waitress, I wonder if management realize what a star and asset she is to the hotel, she gets ten stars from us."

  • "Very enjoyable country hotel"

    05 March 2016

"The hotel is much upgraded since our last visit. We had a large and well equipped room fitted with traditional country hotel furniture. We enjoyed the pool area and had a very good meal. Breakfast was particularly good; the attractive cafe and terrace right in the busy heart of town was very pleasant."

"Hello everyone,<div><br /></div><div>my friends and I booked one night at Swartberg Hotel and checked in on April, 2015.</div><div><br /></div><div>The hotel was easy to find and got a nice equipment with pool, sauna, gym, reading room, WiFi, bar and restaurant.</div><div><br /></div><div>The restaurant was really good, all we ordered was delicious.</div><div>the pool was clean, the gym was small but clean and good equipped, the reading room was comfortable, the bar was cheap and got a huge choice of wines and whiskeys.</div><div><br /></div><div>Negative were the small stairs to our rooms. Elderly people may got problems here, they should better book one of the other rooms which are disabled-friendly.</div><div>In one room, the shower got a really slippery and not fixed ground, the wooden floor in our rooms were uneven and loud, but that's because the hotel is pretty old, too.</div><div>A big problem was all our sleepless night. We got haunted by many many mosquitoes, all of us killed over one and a half dozen in the night. But I have to say that Hotel Swartberg got a mosquitoes-spray and other stuff against them in every room.</div><div><br /></div><div>In one of our rooms, the ac-radiators were directly behind the window, they turned on quiet often in the night and made noises.</div><div><br /></div><div>Now our breakfast...</div><div>the service was really poor, the waiter were not attentive.</div><div>the offer was okay, the breakfast tasted good.</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>After all, we wouldn't stay again in Hotel Swartberg.</div>"

"We had an outside cottage because inside was fully booked. We were just there for one night but our room had a massive dressing room, bedroom, huge flat screen TV in a sitting room and a completely functional kitchen! We didn't need all that but it was awesome. Breakfast was great, as was dinner in the restaurant!! Would definitely go back again."

  • "Prince Albert Gem"

    04 November 2014

"We stayed at the hotel as part of the GO Magazine Photographic course. What a lovely hotel! The rooms were stunning and the suite we stayed in was recently re-done. Although it was at times a bit noisy and the check-out was a bit of a process, the staff are friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant and coffee shop was delicious. There is a beautiful swimming pool which provides welcome relief from the heat of the Karoo. I would highly recommend it."
