BassFeather Country Lodge is located near the north-eastern Free State maize-farming town of Reitz, famous for its beautiful gardens and sandstone architecture. The lodge is ideally situated for a corporate team-building weekend or a refreshing getaway from the rough and tumble of city life, just two hours drive from Johannesburg. BassFeather caters for every taste and pocket with its scenic, unspoilt and utterly peaceful surroundings.
Relax in one of the newly refurbished and comfortably appointed four- or six-bedroom chalets, each equipped with an en-suite bathroom, a TV, stove, fridge and microwave, or make yourself comfortable in our campsite with excellent ablution and recreation facilities available, including a community centre and big screen TV with DStv.
One of the most impressive features of BassFeather Country Lodge is its beautiful tranquil embarkment. Situated in breathtaking surroundings, it is large enough for power-boating and water-skiing, and guests are welcome to bring their boats and make the most of this prime facility. Guests might also want to try their hand at fishing, as we have generously stocked bass dams. Enjoy a long stroll beside the dam, tackle a hike, or take a walk up our beautiful koppie with its superb views over the peaceful, unspoilt terrain. Indulge in a little bird watching or spot the blesbok, zebra and black wildebeest on the farm.
Encounter our challenging golf course just 5 km from the lodge or take a leisurely 45-minute drive to the cultural beehive that is Clarens, which is home to a number of resident artists and galleries. The breathtaking Golden Gate National Park is also just an hour's drive away, situated in the foothills of the majestic Maluti Mountains.
"Stay was sublime. Facilities great. Best of all the exceptional service.I must confess the road from Reitz to the camp was bad. Full of pot holes.. Nothing our hosts could however do about that."
"Ons sal definitief weer van jul geriewe gebruik maak in die toekoms"
"Value for money, loved the crisp clean mornings"
"Kan BassFeather Lodge baie sterk aanbeveel. Kampeerplek mooi skoon, gras kort gesny en na die milde reent sal die dam ook voller wees. Een probleem wat dringend moet aandag kry: Die krag skop baie uit, al die woonwaens moes beurtelings koffie maak en dit is nie aangenaam nie. Groete Niek en Estelle"
"We stayed in 4 sleeper chalet doesn't look like the pictures on website. Terrible access road from Reitz. Only bar on premises no snacks or food sold. People arriving after 10pm maybe friends of staff having their own party with loud music and talking until 01H45 when they left in a very noisy bakkie."
"Very pleasant."
"The views are so beautiful, we could have stayed for a whole week."
"Firstly you have to travel next to the dumping grounds, then through the township to get to bassfeather. When you get there they only tell you what number you chalet are, and please the 4 sleeper is as good as a RDP house, no kitchen, no steak knifes of bread knife, the showers water is so thin I could not even wet my hair, the pool is milky if you get in there are slime and algae under the bottom of the pool, you cant walk because you are slip and sliding if you go on to their web site it is beautiful but when you get there you can see that the website hasn't been up dated we were the only ones there for the whole weekend, I'm definitely NOT recommending Bassfeather."
"The accommodation is basic, small, but clean and comfortable. The duvets are soft and pillows are super! It is warm inside in winter, and I didn't see all the many cats someone else commented of!No DSTV, just the free channels, so great to connect with the people you are there with!"
"Great venue very scenic. Too many cats running around. We had no water in the morning. Nice bar area and very friendly people. I will stay there again."
"I definitely recommend BassFeather lodge to friends and family,(anyone). I wish you all expanding success as you continue the traditions of serving your community and the traveling public. You have an incredible resources beyond the better-known attractions, and we sure all await our next return with happy anticipation."
