• "Disgusting, horrifiying, awful!!!!!!"

    29 February 2016

    "
The title sort of covers it in a nutshell.

Let me begin by stating that one should be very careful not to be misled into believing everything they read when looking inline or at the marketing of establishments to decide where to stay, even if it is for one night. What seemed as a warm and cosy, inviting family friendly establishment, turned out to be a horrifying experience for me and my family.

To start with, the reception was very cold and unprofessional and I even think it was actually one of the residents that was tasked to give me my room keys and a tour of the house. The so called family room, that we shared with a family of cockroaches, had 4 double beds in and a desk, with bedding on that I don't even want to guess when last they were changed or washed and the fan advertised, did not work. The shared kitchen was disgusting. Cupboard doors that were falling off, dirty dishes laying around and the complimentary tea & coffee was non existent. I had to go and buy my own and could only find one 1 teaspoon to make tea and coffee for my wife and myself. Needless to say we did not eat there. The shared bathrooms were also not clean when we went to shower, one bathroom had a toilet with pooh in it, which stank and the other one had dirty panties from one of the residents hanging on the towel hook. Absolutely disgusting.

That was however not the worse of things. The lady that welcomed us did tell me that there were 3 young ladies staying in the house and there would be 2 young men that would be getting in later form a party in Durban. The 3 young girls for a night out I presume and at 12am me and my family were rudely awoken by a crowd of drunken people that had arrived back from their night out. Loud music, screaming & shouting and no consideration for us and my family actually felt scared and uncomfortable and I dared not goout and ask them to please keep it down for fear of our own safety. Eventually at around 2am, they settled down and we were able to go to sleep again, only to be woken at again at 5am with loud music being played from a room directly below ours and when I left our room did I see the extent of the partying that had gone on. The house reeked of alcohol and cigarette smoke. Dirty drinks cups and dishes in the kitchen and laying on the lounge floor. Urine was all over the floors in the bathrooms and the greatest shock was seeing evidence of what certainly looked like the use of drugs on the table right outside our bedroom window. (I have taken pictures of this and also of all the other stuff mentioned). I immediately packed up and got my family out of there.

This was by far the most disgusting and uncomfortable stay in any establishment I have everexperienced in my life. This place should not be marketed as a backpackers lodge, but rather a youth hostel/house party.

I will never recommend them to anybody I know for fear of embarrassment and I would hope that SafariNow take them off of their listings, as this place is only going to cause a negative impression of what establishments SafariNow supports.

I really hope my feedback is taken seriously and that ii get some sort of compensation for this awful experience, that not only me but my family had togo through.

"

    "
Good one night stay. Accommodation with parking vehicles inside. Rather warm at night so a fan would be good. Clean.
"

"The backpackers was a perfect stopover for us between JHB and the Eastern Cape. It was clean, we could have a warm shower, tea or coffee in the morning and staff were really friendly and easygoing. Easy walk to the nearest Spur for dinner and a sweet coffee shop for breakfast."

  • "The cleanest place Ive ever been"

    01 September 2014

"I never expected the place to be this clean, warm and organised, due to the fact that its not expensive, as we always rate places according to cost. The lady treated us very well and made us feel at home, she went an extra mile even providing us with breakfast that we did not deserve. The beds were comfortable and the bedding was super clean and nice. I enjoyed my stay, and will refer other people to this place. I have found a home and will always go there when I need accommodation."
