Secret Spot International Backpackers and Surf Camp

The Secret Spot International Backpackers and Surf Camp is a unique getaway, surf camp, and international backpackers ideally situated in Shakas Rock, KwaZulu-Natal. The area is affectionately referred to as natures playground and offers great waves, warm Indian Ocean waters, and bottle nose dolphins that frolic in the waves among the surfers. The Secret Spot is only 500 m from the beach, and is close to various surf breaks, as well as being only a short drive from King Shaka International Airport and Durban City Centre.

The Secret Spot offers a range of different accommodation choices including double and twin private cabins, dormitories, and tented units, all set in picturesque African bush.

The Secret Spot also offers informal conference facilities. Airport shuttle services are available on request.

"NOT A GOOD PLACE ITS VERY DIRTY AND ITS NOTHING LIKE THE PICTURES THE FAN THAT WAS IN THE ROOM WAS SO DIRTY THAT YOU COULDNT EVEN USE IT AND THE BATHROOM IS FOR EVERY ONE YOU DONT HAVE ANY PRIVACY ALSO WE ASKED THE CLEANER TO CLEAN THE FAN AND SHE TOLD US NO WE SHOULD SLEEP LIKE THAT TILL THE NEXT DAY SO WE DID AND SHE WHOLE WEEK WE WERE THERE THEY DID NOT CLEAN IT AT ALL ALSO THE CLEANER ASKED ME IT I CAN GIVE HER MONEY FOR NEW AS I SAID NO SHE SHOULD RATHER CLEAN THE ROOMS BETTER WE WERE VERY DISSAPOINTED"

"It wasn't in the first place the old or dirty facilities that gave us an unpleasant feeling. It was the fact that it looked abandoned. So we started already a little bit unhappy when we arrived. Then we found out the pool and kitchen were not clean.<br/>Our unpleasant feeling grew when we came back from dining out. We found that the bathroom was really rusty and filthy and we found cockroaches and other insects in our bedroom. We decided not to stay and left for a hotel nearby. <br/>One advantage: we got a full refund when we went for complaining the next day. <br/>It could be a nice place, if they would put more effort in maintaining the place."

"Very basic, do not think that you will be getting luxury. Otherwise it was a fun stay somewhere different, we were in one of the tents. There was a mix up with the payment, they had no card machine which wasn't properly communicated beforehand (esp as you pay deposit with card and are told to bring card with you). Arrived late around 10.30pm and hosts came and gave us blankets. Toilets and showers are outside and super basic so do not stay here if you are not prepared for that, but perfectly fine enjoyable stay!"

"This is one for the books. If you are looking to stay in a clean, friendly and affordable place, this is it! The couple-owners are fantastic and the whole property is amazing. There is a swimming pool and an outside bar, this is definitely a place you could relax AND have a party at! And the location is fantastic, with an ocean view. You can even hear the ocean at night, its great."

"We stayed in a wooden cabin for 4 days with our 2 year old. The establishment has recently been taken over and there are a lot of improvements already in place. The location is great, the place is really beautiful and clean and the staff made us feel completely like part of the family! Will definitely be back!"
